Literally next to where it shows he has a 32& cross completion rate it shows that that figure is in the 81st percentile of the league, so it's clearly not a stick to beat him with. |
Just from having watched football for any length of time you could surely know that a third of crosses finding a team mate is a decent result.
Crosses are imperfect, its not like a holding midfielder passing it 5 yards to an unmarked teammate and getting an 85% completion rate, its often done at speed, into a crowded box, to players being closely marked. |  |

But personal opinion with the amount of opportunities he gets, it should still be better and if he looked up more like he started to just after KM came in.. he could still yet get better. | |

Burns' rate is higher than Alexander-Arnold and Ward-Prowse in the 21/22 season - it's a number that is more than fine, and any improvement is going to be so minor.

Any improvement Is an improvement no matter how minor. Some of the potential goals we could have scored with a chipped back post cross compared to a blind drilled ball across the box for example.
These opportunities onto of the other areas I feel burns has lacked this season is why I want some completion for him. Again I'm not saying bin Burns off. There's no reason to.. but actual competition for that Position would be great and the whole reason for me replying to the OP about it. | |

Tbh I didn't want to even use stats to share my view but posters kept telling me to link to stats hence why I included them.. I did agree with SB that they kind of rely on teammates on the completion side anyway.
My personal opinion is just based on visuals. And the opportunities which cries out for a deep cross is met with a drilled one. I mentioned it a couple weeks ago to that we rarely see a floated cross from burns to an awaiting ladapo.. which we saw work in pre season ( or early league game.. can't remember which it was. But Freddie scored a header. | |

I don't think Jackson is the ideal competition for Burns as Jackson's crossing ability is even worse than Burns, he does the right things in the role with speed and pushing defenders but his final ball and in fact his finishing has always been woeful.
You don't get improved performance from people by keeping the same competition or providing competition of a lesser ability.

It's surprised me that Jackson has lasted as long as he has here. He's never pulled up trees, but performs at a fairly consistent average level, and while I agree with Joe that we can't just keep buying replacements, spending spiraling amounts of money, I can't help but feel this season will probably be his last before we get a more targeted like for like play to interchange with burns. Jacksons days as a cf definately seem done now.
Meanwhile I would expect we may move a couple on in this window especially if we bring another in, i don't have a clue what the wages of the 3 brought in are but financial balance must be being spoken about you would think. | | | |
