If they want more money they could work extra days, most nurses only do 3 or 4 12 hour shifts per week, with the current staff shortages there must be shifts available as overtime ?

Good luck with it. You get my support. Mealy mouthed clap for the NHS then give them a pay cut, no support and rubbish working conditions doesn’t really cut it for me.

Ah, Mr Barclay, nice to see you. Shouldn't you be actually out negotiating with the unions rather than talking crap on here?

Better still, become agency nurses, get better pay and cost the NHS more.

That's the way things are going. A nurse on Sky recruited from India 12 years ago along with 9 other people said that 8 of them had either left for Australia or were agency nurses.

To misquote Bill Clinton, "it's the pay, stupid".

Clapping for nurses ended and has been replaced with pissing all over them instead.

I don't think it is so much as better pay, per se.

Their pay has been reduced by 20% in the past decade. I don't think it is too much to ask for that pay cut to be restored.

And as with the other thread "A False Economy", what we are seeing is the expense training nursing staff being wasted as they leave the professii. Aldi is paying the same without the stress.

And when boiled down this is an argument between wage labour and capital - and I doubt there is anyone on here that is a capitalist ie they can live off their capital

So this struggle is theirs - much as blackshirts soon found tha their mate, Adolf, did not differentiate during the blitz

Hang on though, the great Mr Barclay says giving them more wages will "cut patient care and stoke inflation" maybe he's right and by that rationale, the best thing to do would be cut wages instead, maybe even cut them completely and make the NHS a voluntary organisation? Imagine the patient care benefits that would bring.

F-uck me where to start!!

If only the shifts were 12 hours, very often they run to 13 and longer, and very often thats without a proper break

So lets just say you are seriously ill in hospital would you be happy have someone looking after you, providing potentially life changing care who have already worked potentially 48 hours thats week and could be looking at 50-60 hours?

maybe its those hours that are part of the issue

Just trying to work out if this is a joke or note. They could work harder because most of them only do between 36 and 48 hours work a week.

Got to be a joke thing, right?

Yes. Nothing provides better health care than an exhausted nurse doing extra shifts after working a forty-eight hour week.

The nasty EU wanted to limit employees to a 48 hour working week. It was only because we negotiated an exemption that we were allowed to continue to work excessively long hours. Watch out for those nasty EU types trying to protect the worker. If we worked another 12 hour shift every week the Government could cut pay by 7% and they would still be earning 16.25% more. Best of all worlds then. Government pays less, nurses get their pay rises and waiting lists get cut. Win-win.
