1968 - A Drive Around Ipswich on 14:30 - Feb 25 by The_Major
There's a bit where it jumps, and I can't work out what road we're on. It's where we start going down Heath Road, it then jumps to this unidentified road, and then suddenly we switch back to going round the St Augustine's roundabout.
The road has left and right bends in it, so it's not Heath Road or Bixley Road, so I'm stumped. Foxhall Road perhaps? It's about 1min 20 in.
Edit just realised you mean the bit after the right-hand bend on Heath Road.
Not sure if broke hall was built in 1968, they look like bungalows next to the junction so maybe somewhere there, but road looks too wide

It looks strongly like Foxhall Rd to me. I reckon a left turn was made at the Heath/Bixley roundabout.
Yes it looks like Foxhall Road around the Arundel Way junction to me - but it doesn't bend like that there. Very strange. Roads can change layout sometimes (see that weird bend earlier on before Park Road where the Marlborough Hotel used to be)
Is that a Tolly Folly (The Golf) just coming into view on right a split-second before we switch to St Augustine's roundabout?

I'm pretty convinced now its Foxhall Road going out of town about 100 yards before the Arundel Way junction. You can see a large house / shop next to some bungalows which corresponds with the Farm Shop and Pharmacy that are there now with some greenery on the left side of the road.

I'm putting the bend down to an optical illusion

On further reflection, I think you are right, having looked at that stretch of the road on Streetview. In particular there are the mish-mash of bungalows and semis on that stretch of road, and I think you are right about the shops.
As you say, it is a little bit before Arundel Way, which I think had been built (although not necessarily the houses on it) by 1968, as I moved to Broke Hall Estate in 1967.

Also, that footage at the start of the old Franciscan Way coming to a grinding halt at St Nicholas Street gives me an excuse to post this link to the magnificent Ipswich Lettering site which has the plans of what was originally intended beyond that point.
It would have wiped out a whole load of historic buildings between St Nicholas Street and Fore Street. and by my reckoning probably that timber framed building on the corner of Soane Street and St Margarets Street as well, with the Halberd thrown in for good measure.

Yes, that is a fantastic site, and not as dull as its title would suggest.
