What a load of twaddle, fair play to him for sticking to his guns, can imagine he disagreed with them when they told him to probably delete the tweet and not to comment in the future.

Well this has blown up. Mrs Swanners just mentioned it to me, so obviously I came on here for the news.

What a humungous clusterfu*k the BBC have made of this. They could have released a statement saying something along the lines of ‘we are aware of Linekers’s comments, and whilst we don’t condone them because we are an impartial broadcaster our presenters are free to express their own views in their own time’. Job done.

They haven’t, because one can only assume this is political and the screws have been applied from the top (their Tory backgrounded and still connected top).

Unlikely to stop here either, as people keep mentioning numerous others who've expressed political views (of the "right" sort of course ...) but not been censored - someone on Twitter just commented "Prue Leith, employed for her expertise in food, supported Brexit. So what? Ridiculous for BBC News bulletins to be leading on this".

Which leads to another point - just highlights what propaganda machines most msm are - that this story is front page in print rags & headlining broadcast media, instead of the 'Illegal Migrants' Bill, the UNHCR's published rebuke to Sunak & co. the other day, the raw sewage being pumped into our rivers & shores, shortages of fresh fruit & veg (and other chaos caused by Brexsh1t) - is scandalous.

Off to watch Crufts before I blow up!

Think Dan Walker has ruled himself out already.

Not going to risk the bike ride. Lineker at least has a man that gets him to his car and drives him there.

It’s the hypocrisy that gets me. They have a literal Tory donor as their Chair. A former Tory PM SPAD in a senior role. Other presenters who openly post their (Tory) political views on social media with no challenge and/or who hold senior roles in Tory supporting media.

In the main I think the BBC is still something to be proud of. They do eventually criticise the Government, even if they have to be shamed into it. But my faith in them is being stretched to the limit. Throw in today’s blocking of David Attenborough’s latest episode that’s critical of the UK’s direction, and it makes you wonder if the BBC isn’t rapidly becoming a propaganda arm of the government.

Fiona Bruce, on QT last, should take a good hard look at herself. Defending domestic violence BJ dad, by stating that it was a one-off (which it wasn’t). As chair, she would have known that this was likely to have come up and that is how to defended it. It is a disgrace.

https://metro.co.uk/2023/03/10/fiona-bruce-calls-stanley-johnsons-domestic-abuse

Really? Look, it’s absolutely fine if women only get beaten so they have to go to hospital once. What’s wrong with you? Get with the times buh, International Women’s Day’s gone now!

Frightening isn’t it. What annoyed me more than anything is that it’s on record (from her own words) that he hit his wife regularly (far more than “just once”). Since when has putting a woman in hospital been the bar by which domestic abuse is judged? The person being interviewed didn’t even respond to Bruce saying “only once”. I find that deeply shocking and frightening.

It’s all gone a bit nuts. In the 70s and 80s CND we’re encouraging us to build nuclear bunkers. I reckon they’d be more use against the idiocy of the internet age. I mean, in what world does a football presenter’s views make top news billing over all the other stuff that’s going on now?

They’ve fked it lads (and Ryorry, Bluebell, et al!). What a bunch of melons.

I wonder if this could be a bit of a turning point when more people wake up to how things are going? You don’t reach non-political people through considered arguments after all. If Brexit taught us anything it was that emotion and relating back to immediate everyday life trumps all. And you don’t evoke more emotion than by feckin with peoples’ football.

This push back is exactly what’s needed. Some of these employees are household names, and in some cases (Attenborough) they’re literally national treasures. These are the people who connect people to the BBC, not the corporate Tory-linked execs. If the Beeb loses the support of their presenters’ followers it loses its own support.

Scum bags.

People moan about sky but we’ve been getting screwed by the licence fee for too many years. The most expensive tv channel to subscribe to which we don’t even get a choice with.

Sdaly, it'd be sh*t though, because whatever anyone thinks of the BBC's political positioning they are very, very good at producing TV.

Don't be a numpty. A programme needs an anchor if nothing else. Other it'll be like your autie's video of your kids school nativity play when she forgot to turn the sound on.

Really sad.

At the heart of this are thousands of people, including women and children who end up in such a desperate position that crossing the channel in all weathers in a dinghy is their only option. Yet the right wing press, egged on by the Tories choose to distract from their horrific approach to this tragic issue by making a sports presenter announcing understandable concern at the language being used around these poor souls to be the demon of the situation. That Braverman and co then deliberately try to take the moral high-ground on the holocaust makes it even worse.

I suppose it also all distracts from the Tory influence in the BBC that means impartiality was lost a long time ago. It really is quite frightening what the Tories are now doing.

Agree. Fully support their stance but I think this could be the start of no more pundits for MOTD.

Pay someone to do a few voice overs for game intro and then just have the highlights with the commentary.

That's about £1.5m a year we've saved the BBC, or 9433 annual colour licence fees.

Truly impaired.
