Lineker to step back from presenting MOTD 16:57 - Mar 10 with 27594 views | SitfcB | What a load of twaddle, fair play to him for sticking to his guns, can imagine he disagreed with them when they told him to probably delete the tweet and not to comment in the future. Pay someone to do a few voice overs for game intro and then just have the highlights with the commentary. That's about £1.5m a year we've saved the BBC, or 9433 annual colour licence fees. |
No chance. As iffy as some of them are, there's no programme without them.

According to Henry Winter on Twitter: Football's backlash against @BBC intensifies over its treatment of @GaryLineker. Many @premierleague players keen to show support for ex-pro pundits who step aside from @BBCMOTD. And @PFA will also fully support players who face fines for not completing required broadcast duties.

Disagree. Extended highlights with commentary would be great. I think people would like it. Especially as Shearer just repeats what you can see rather than provide any actual insights. "He passes to him...he passes it back...and he sticks it in the net". Brilliant, cheers Alan.

I know it's fashionable to knock pundits but I actually enjoy how they break down what went wrong/why things aren't working (and the opposite). I think people will miss them when they're not there. Equally with commentators. Despite the fact I can see what's happening, I had an issue with iFollow this season where I didn't have commentary and it was a lesser experience. Plus if you've ever watched football in a pub where they refuse to put the sound on...
| Trust the process. Trust Phil. |

I have no issue with good pundits. I just think getting rid of the MOTD team and showing more of the actual football that they pay for may appeal to the BBC. That's my last comment on this as I don't want to derail the thread. I fully support their stance on this issue and the shower we have in government. It's important they win this battle and I do hope they are back on MOTD soon for that reason.

In which case, why bother with MOTD? Just watch the highlights on YouTube the next day, plus you can skip games you don't care about.

It’d be like iFollow. No build up, extended ads at half time and full time, nobody to anchor any interviews post-match.

Lineker to step back from presenting MOTD on 02:03 - Mar 11 with 1614 views | Jimmy86 | What makes me laugh is the fact that the out of touch beeb are trying to censor/cancel Lineker for his comments criticising our government, yet they were happy enough to let him start the world cup coverage with that critical monologue against Qatar... So if he has breached their impartiality guidelines now, did he not breach them then too?! | | | | Login to get fewer ads

The Qatar words were a bbc approved statement not his personal comments. Which demonstrates if you are on the bbc paid by the bbc you are a mouthpiece of the bbc. Don’t take the bbc taxpayers money if you can’t operate under the rules which are there to avoid exactly this. He’s completely free to say whatever he likes but not then take the money.

So you're allowed to state political views, as long as those political views align with the BBC / Government... Doesn't sound very impartial to me.

Also in that group was Brendan Clarke-Smith who compared the England team taking the knee to doing a nazi salute. Both Hunt and Clarke Smith were of course big supporters of Boris Johnson, who compared to the EU to Hitler during the referendum campaign. So it seems their outrage is 100% genuine and consistent.

Yeah but Qatar is on the “wrong” side of the British state and establishment and its power base in the Middle East. I’d like to see the BBC statement on the even worse, more repressive Saudi Arabian regime who is our strategic partner in the region. And who are also bombing Yemenis to maintain control of the peninsula with UK equipment and support. But more importantly, I’d like to see some coverage first.

Let's hope Ipswich follow suit, or if they don't, Brenner takes a stand. And don't forget, those working in BBC local radio already have their own grievances against the BBC.

I have a question for all the boyos here; you *do know* what it will inevitably mean if this industrial action (of a type) continues for the bbc don’t you? You do know the Tories want the licence fee managed out of existence?

And this compounds the idiocy of this decision. Who ever thought the first blow in mad nads mission to dismantle the BBC would be struck............ by the BBC.
