That'll just divide Labour even further, the absolute last thing we need.

Silly move, they should have just let him carry on ploughing his own lonesome furrow, he would have self-destructed, & then quietly disappeared beneath the waves without any fuss or anyone else being blamed.

If he had an ounce of integrity or humility he would stand down anyway after the damage he did to the Labour party.

Only way to get rid of the bad smell of anti-semitism enablement is to banish it, it would seem.

Lazy journalism?…it’s the Sun…

I guess his house is probably worth ~3* the national average though.

When the Sun are reporting on Labour in approving tones you know that Labour have shifted far too far rightwards.

“ quietly disappeared beneath the waves without any fuss or anyone else being blamed”

Should have done that after losing a popularity contest to Teresa May…

Stepped aside, let someone else carry out his manifesto = election won/change enacted.

Maybe he feared that if he stepped aside, the person who following him wouldn't carry out his manifesto despite initially promising to...

I'm about to move to an area that's in Islington North, so looking forward to getting more of an insight to the CLP's views.

I've yet to cancel the direct debit, but I'm struggling to justify remaining as a member to be honest. The current situation is ludicrous.

The purging of the left is frankly disgusting, and terrible for democracy in this country, which is already a bit of a sham.

Anyone genuinely left wing, or even left of centre left, is once again politically homeless in the UK.

Greens, SNP, Plaid, Communist Party of Britain?

SNP? 48% of SNP members have just voted for Kate Forbes, a candidate whose views on same sex marriage and abortion would make Trump blush.

And the other 52% voted for a man who missed the vote on same sex marriage after coming under pressure from the religious right.

Greens are environmentalists which makes them left on some issues but not universally so. SNP are predominantly focused on independence and as their leadership campaign has shown, there is a real mixed bag of views within the party, many of which aren't left at all. Also can't vote for them unless you're in Scotland, same goes for Plaid Cymru. Communist Party of Britain don't have the clout to stand nationally (can't recall seeing them on a ballot to be honest). Given that we have right wing and centre right parties at a UK level, it's a worry that the left isn't really represented in the same way and is evidence of the continual drift rightwards in our politics.

None of those parties will even be on the ballot in my constituency. Due to our undemocratic system, the idea that there is genuine choice is flawed at best. And now that Labour have decided to do the Tories dirty work for them and destroy the left, bothering to vote seems almost futile. It's all very depressing.

You can be economically left and not socially progressive.

You've already got the Tories, lowhouse, not sure why you feel the need to take Labour as well.

Another reason that we need PR, it will enable both the main parties to split, leaving a centre left party, a centre right one and some other parties on the fringes

You need to be realistic here. If you want real change, the best thing to do is pretend that you don't. Then you might get some, or something.

i'm very happy with labour - now a progressive and electable party. if there are people who want something different then they should have the balls to stand on what it is they want and see what the electorate think.

Indeed. I find it odd that there are some who claim to be progressive and to want a more equal society but feel the way to do so is to go in the opposite direction to that politically so that we don't scare people and then at some unspecified point in the future we might be able to gradually start making some very small changes to our rigged system.
