Stoke City seem to be really shaking things up. Ten signings this summer, quite a few from abroad, the latest being Ryan Mmaee yesterday for 4 million. (The others are Mark Travers, Enda Stevens, Ben Pearson, Michael Rose, Daniel Johnson, André Vidigal, Ki-Jana Hoever and Chiquinho; Junior Tchamadeu also close to signing, it's claimed.)

I wonder if the (other) bookmakers know quite what to do with them.

Yep, I’ve got a few mates who are die hard Stokies and they are definitely in twist or bust territory.

I’d say they will be top 6, little doubt.

Not sure they are in "twist or bust" territory, with owners worth more than £9 bn - that sort of backing is more than most Premier League sides have.

If they gel. Can take a bit of time for big turnovers to come together.

Exactly this. Nice to be playing them early.

Signing she'd loads of players doesn't always work as we found out ourselves

Quite a lot of doubt imo. Alex Neil has been getting lots of criticism and there’s a good chance he’ll be gone soon if he carries on the way he finished last season (5 losses, 2 draws all against poor ish teams). Spending a bit of money means nothing if he can’t get the team working.

On closer inspection, my figure of ten 'signings' is a bit exaggerated, - three of them are signings in the same way that Hirst is a signing, i.e. they played there last season.

A lot depends on the ability of their manager to mould their new signings into a cohesive unit.

Would you think that with all those additions the squad will be un gelled ( is there such a word?) .. I remember when we brought loads of players in all at once it took most of the season for those players to get to know one x as mother snd be effective as a unit …

Slightly off topic, but I saw a number of their fans saying that Tyrese Campbell is likely to be moved on in their overhaul - one I think would be perfect for us.

So Stoke have now finished their shopping:

"The three latest arrivals Gooch, Haksabanovic and Tchamadeu follow the signings of defender Enda Stevens, Bournemouth midfielder Ben Pearson and keeper Mark Travers, Coventry defender Michael Rose, Preston midfielder Daniel Johnson, Portuguese striker Andre Vidigal, Wolves duo Ki-Jana Hoever and Chiquinho, strikers Wesley from Aston Villa and Ryan Mmaee from Ferencvaros, last week's double signing of Sampdoria forward Mehdi Leris and Serbian winger Nikola Jojic - and then signing number 15, South Korean midfielder Bae Junho on Thursday."

Stoke have spent big. Birmingham City have also made some really significant signings this Summer.

Stoke, Leicester, Leeds, Southampton, Birmingham all have players in their squads who could easily be in Premiership teams. Only 3 teams go up though!

I can’t remember if any of their new players were in the team that played us three weeks ago and can’t be bothered to look. I know Stevens did because he got taken to the cleaners, PL standard or not. Stoke looked bang average.

As for FFP, I assume, given their gates are not the highest, that they’ve found a way around FFP or ignoring/gambling on promotion?

Won't make any difference how much they have if they don't win promotion and have failed FFP rules with overspending. Eventually they will get hit with a fine, or points deduction or transfer embargo or all 3

Chiquinho has gone already, poor attitude apparently so Gollum has binned him.

1 Travers
17 Hoever
5 Rose
16 Wilmot
3 Stevens
4 Pearson
28 Laurent
20 Tavares Oliveira Substituted for Wesleyat
12 Johnson Substituted for Sidibeat
7 Cunha Vidigal
19 Mmaee Substituted for Gayleat

Six new signings in that XI. (Maybe one or two were re-signings, Hirst-style.)

They've signed a lot more since then, six in the last week. It must be one of the biggest 'make-overs' ever, and I guess that's why Alex Neil was attracted to the job. Very different from the Sunderland approach. Time will tell if they've shopped wisely. Certainly an eclectic collection. I'm not sure if any are 'mere' loans.

I doubt anyone knows a lot about most of Stoke's signings to be honest. They've spent decent money and that gets the headlines but who is to say it works for them? We know from recent times that when you have an overhaul of that size they aren't all hits.

Didn’t we sign 16 or 18, whatever it was a couple of years ago??

That’s probably as big a turnover as there’s been.

After the game the manager admitted they were well beaten. And since then they've gone out and signed over half a new team.
