Think you were perhaps blinded by the nervy last 15 mins or so, and even during that spell we had three breaks of the type that often lead to a goal. We'll learn from that. We definitely had the clearer chances overall and at 2-0 the ref bottled the clearest penalty you'll ever see and that could well have been game over. I'd say we deserved it. |  |

I was a bit peeved that we seemed to lose all shape and control after they went down to ten men for some unknown reason. When it was 11 v 11 they didn't look like scoring. After the red card, we weren't in the game.
I get ten men sometimes play better than eleven, for whatever reason, but I can't recall it happening when the hampered team is 2-0 down.

We had the better chances by far. I think we edged it. |
Mackems had more of the play, not that much more of the best chances. Pretty even really, except for a dodgy first ten or so minutes when we were lucky not to be punished giving the ball away so much around our penalty box. Obviously Sunderland were a step up in class from last season, especially the pace of play, but I think we can match this. We aren't playing Real Madrid are we ffs. Still feel we're light in defence and up top, and possibly a little slow in CM... and that's being harshly yet positively critical assessing areas we can improve if we want to challenge this season.
All in all very very positive start, and delighted really for two of our player... Hladky who should take great vibes from that after an understandably nervy start, and Hirst who... well, as I've said before, if we have a good season he will be instrumental. Fack's sake, a natural fackin number 9 innit. All the tools. |  |

Think it would have been a red as he wasn't making a genuine attempt to play the ball. The effort from Chaplin was incredible, couple of inches lower and that's goal of the season done and dusted right there. | |

Think it's because they changed shape and we had Chaplin broadhead. Davis all with cramp
Jd had head injury and morsh and luongo were playing on adrenaline alone.
