We're a League One side in the Championship 16:19 - Sep 2 with 11932 viewsNeedhamChris

That's not the fault of the 11 on the pitch - we are going to get beaten regularly if we're not at the top of our game.

We're a League One side in the Championship on 15:30 - Sep 7 by NeedhamChris

I decided to have a bit of a break - I can understand the outpour against this post, but it's not how I wanted it to be interpreted.

When I posted this I was sat amongst some vocal people who were unhappy with the performance - and personally didn't get it. We're competing at a level above what we are used to and teams will beat us. Fortunately that didn't happen Saturday.

I had my crazy wobble last February re: McKenna but have been clear that I was wrong and have been thoroughly enjoying every game since.

We are a League One team in the Championship still in my view - but that doesn't mean we can't succeed. It's how I'm managing my expectations this season - this side was a League One team and anything we do other than consolidation in this division is a bonus. There won't be many seasons like that - so I will enjoy it.

This season is bloody brilliant - I have zero expectations other than survival and it's refreshing to not worry about losing on a Saturday being terminal to our hopes for the season. I was pretty content at 2-0 down and just enjoying it, but somehow conspired to appear the most negative on here at the same time.

So...meh - I'd left this alone but clearly some are eagerly awaiting my response. If ever we cross paths in the SBRL we can chat about it and you can hopefully see the positivity, but other than that - I'm just going to stay away from new posts and carry on enjoying it.

You're still doubling down on the "We are a League One team in the Championship" view though. How else are we meant to interpret that?

We earned Championship status on merit, and as others have said in the thread were statistically among the best, of not THE best, teams ever in League 1. So you could argue we were a Championship team in League 1. Promotion and relegation exists so teams end up at the level they should be.

And the start we've had, 4 wins from 5 and sitting second going into the international break, suggests we are a Championship side.

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

Let's say our strongest XI when fit is:

Walton
Clarke
Woolf
Burgess
Davis
Morsy
Luongo
Burns
Chaplin
Broadhead
Hirst

All of that XI has played Championship football before this season, some of them have played substantial amounts of football at this level.

Our performances last season also didn't suggest we were a League 1 side, we lost four games all season, scored 100 goals and had a goal difference of +65. All of that suggests we were a level above the division we were playing in. We were dominating sides every week in a way you don't do if you are playing at your natural level.

So yeah, I think describing us as a League 1 side playing in the Championship is disingenuous at best.

Said it before but this is where this forum suffers for not having match threads.

A knee jerk comment like this in a match thread when you are angry in the moment at 0-2 will be glossed over and forgotten about in hours.

I think describing us as a League One side playing in the Championship is really about the OP putting the players and the team down, if he is honest about it. What he is saying is that we have League One quality players and they all needed replacing with better in the transfer window. A view shared of course by the doom brigade.

You of course post is of course how it is.

I don’t think the dismals realise what an extraordinary run we are on. In 20 games, 5 of which were in the Championship, 17 wins, 1 loss, 2 draws and a boatload of goals. In getting on for half a season of games. That in MMs words is bonkers.

It’s hardly likely we will continue like this, but nothing can take away just how strong we have been and just how well they’ve gone about doing it too. League One side we are not.

Problem is he's come back a couple of times and doubled down on it, even a short while ago (a full 5 days after the event).

That's probably true, but then we've got an awful lot of Norwich trolls here at the moment, I think, who will start threads like this anyway. Not saying Chris is one, but there certainly seem to be a lot about.

Not surprising really, given we're flying in the Championship with an 80% win rate. I see every half-arsed critical thread in these circumstances as a tight-jawed compliment from north of the Waveney. Bird sh!t and spilt Trill everywhere.

The natural order of things is being restored after an unpleasant hiatus.

Pride of Anglia.
