Bloots' interesting post about Chambo and Huws' budget clothing emporium got me thinking...

... I saw Chambo, Huws, Stephen Ward and someone else (maybe Oli Hawkins, or someone else suitably forgettable) in Nandos, around the time we were all Eating Out To Help Out.

Huws had a chicken breast pitta, no idea what the others ate. Ward spoke with an Irish accent, which tallies with his nationality.

About a year later I saw Dozzell Jr in the same restaurant eating green olives. He didn't talk.

Otherwise, the only other sighting of a footballer I am aware of in a restaurant, was the picture of Neil Thompson and Tony Vaughan in Manna's Cafe, eating fried breakfasts.

I was once in Nandos at Cardinal Park which was full when Dean Gerken walked in, asked for a table for him and his 2 kids, only to be told there would be a 30 minute wait before there would be a spare table … to which he responded, and this is absolutely genuine ‘do you know who I am, my 2 kids really need to eat’.

I don’t think the staff knew he was, but he miraculously was given a table before several others who were waiting in the queue within 5 minutes.

Poor guy was looking for help to tell him who he was

Not football related but my Mrs has just sent me a picture of her with Jason Derulo at some beach club in Ibiza.

The kids are impressed.

Sat next to Mick Mills at the Wolsey Theatre once, I fell asleep during the play, the two weren't necessarily connected.

I also met Alan Shearer at a restaurant in Manchester earlier this year, thought he would be a bit of a knob, but he was a really top guy and made my lad's night, having pictures and signing stuff for him. Was very complimentary of Ipswich and Kieran.

As a former class 1 referee ( old system) the amount of players that said that to me you wouldn't believe. Seems to be the stock answer when you ask their name.
No restaurant stories but stood behind Alan Brazil at the 1987 Cup Final.
Stood chatting to Paul Mariner at Newmarket races-top man!

At Pizza Express on the Waterfront at the next table there was David McGoldrick, Frank Nouble, Luke Chambers and, er, DJ Spoony! Noble was wearing a massive fur hat.
In Zizzi's was on table next to Grant Leadbitter and what I assume was his wife.
Sat near Dalian Atkinson (RIP) in Ipswich McDonald's late 80's.
Queued behind Danny Sonner for a hot dog outside CJ's nightclub in Felixstowe at 1am. He was about as drunk as I've ever seen a person.

Danny Sonner certainly enjoyed his drink. Always used to see him smashed in Bar Extreme in Ipswich.

Terry Butcher, I was walking into the toilet at a Little Chef (or equivalent) somewhere in the middle of nowhere north of Lockerbie. He was walking out, it felt inappropriate to make any comment, but resolved whilst in there that I definitely needed to talk to him when I went back. And hed gone.

I was in a restaurant in London once and Tony Adams was sat at the table opposite. When I say sat, it was more slumped, he was drunk.

I was in a night club in thr 70s and George Best was there, he was drunk. He was walking up the stairs just ahead of me leaving the club and he suddenly fell over and continued falling down the stairs. I gave him a quick kick as he went past, ManU scum. Then as he hit the bottom of the stairs I remembered he was playing for Fulham.then, so I went down and helped him up. He was moaning that some c**** had kicked him. Told him i didnt see anyone kick him, plssed out of his head

A complete wrong ‘un. I think his performance at his last end of season dinner should have got more exposure, but it was all covered up.

Not sure if this counts, but stood next to Freddie Sears in KFC Stanway Brach circa 2016. I smiled at him, he didn’t reciprocate.
Milsoms (Kesgrave), Chambers (twice), Bart once. The latter was particularly friendly, and his wife? was charming too.
Used to regularly travel to Manchester for work : San Carlo Italian restaurant nearly always had United and City players in, pretty much guaranteed. Abiding memory is that they generally seemed full of themselves and liked the attention:but that might be jealousy on my part.
Pubs wise, couple of encounters with Brazil who was in “high spirits” on each occasion.
Mid 90’s I seem to recall that Pals and the Great White Horse were rammed with Town players post match. I remember Bam Bam Naylor being rather boisterous, to say the least!
Off topic somewhat but my favourite encounter was a long chat and post match drink in the club house with Beattie when he played for Harwich & Parkestone, circa 1985 : having spent the 2 half stood next to Mariner who had come to watch him play. TWTD.

Without risking a cease and desist type letter from a lawyer, are you able to elaborate? A rugby playing pal of mine explained to me once that completion of the triple crown on a night out was to puke, p*ss and sh*t yourself over the course of the evening ; was his behaviour in that league of badness?

I sat next to Chambo.... on 17:46 - Sep 5 by Bloots

...Skusey and Wayne Brown at The Bistro on the Quay last year.

They were with their wives, the conversation was very dull, generally revolving around soft furnishings.

Chambo looked sexy though.

Sounds disappointingly dull. You’d have thought it would have involved a few straight arm gestures and some abuse of the foreign waitresses at least. (Nothing to do with Skusey of course).

I hadn’t even seen your post when I used that exact term to describe him also!

I can only imagine what he was up to… was his missus in attendance?

The party I was at, saw him walk behind the bar push the kid serving out the way, grab bottles and drinking from them, refused to pay. Most just ignored him but I was fixated on his behaviour, he saw me looking and said ‘he knows who I am doesn’t he’

I did the whole shaking head embarrassed thing, he was fuming.

Useless pr1ck

Tail end of last year, walked past the corner of Cult Cafe on the way to a quick pint in there before meeting my other half, saw Keogh and A N Other (maybe a player, don't know) sat in the corner window seats. Got my pint, saw them walk past and out so thought "right, I'll have their spot" as they had the comfy sofa, went and sat down and found one of them had left about two thirds of a slice of millionaire shortbread untouched. I was tempted. Very.

Saw Chris Kiwomya in the Shepherd and Dog may 1991.was there for my 10th birthday .eventually plucked up my courage to awkwardly wished him good luck for the upcoming game. "Cheers Lad" was his response and he headed off in his club sponsored car.
