Looked good; very good, clam and composed but he’s not Morsey, nothing wrong with playing them both together - we know Morsey is happy to roam forward and have a shot on goal so should be a great paring if luongo is out for a bit- we have a great midfield now - including taylor as different option.

Based on that debut, I think if Luongo is still out for a few games after Leicester and Maidstone, Travis just slots into his role. Excellent off the ball yesterday, and advantage he has over Morsy is an extra yard of pace which will help with tracking back / recovery runs.

But when Morsy is out we really miss him dropping deep and demanding the ball off Hladky / Defence; the way Morsy draws opposition players doing that before releasing a pass creates so much space for the rest of the team when we're trying to build an attack.

Poll: My morning poo-poo took 3 flushes to clear. Who do I call?

That thing about Morsy taking the ball from Hladky or the CBs under pressure and virtually never coughing it up is so important against a team that really presses (which Sunderland didn't really do yesterday) and is a real superpower of Morsy's. I suspect anyone else capable of doing that at that level is probably going to be playing in the Premier League.

Travis' other BIG plus point yesterday was the number of times he got his foot in to intercept short passes when Sunderland were trying to build through the middle. That extra pace you mention and the way he slotted into a very specific role so well, without ever looking out of position or confused about what we were doing was extremely impressive for me.

We've got some great options in there now - not just cover but ability to tweak the way our middle works against different types of opposition. Taylor's had a tough time breaking into it and at times has looked like he's trying too hard, but when he's flowing well (parts of the second half yesterday) he brings an ability to carry the ball at speed which none of the others quite have, plus that long range threat on goal.

⚔ Long live the Duke of Punuar ⚔
