Raise a glass to Paul Cook 14:31 - May 3 with 6990 viewsLA_Tractor_Boy

If we do it, then personally I will raise a glass to Paul Cook tomorrow afternoon.

Not debating that KMc has improved his signings, but I think Cook deserves credit for bringing Hladky, Walton, Burgess, Edmondson, Morsy, Chappers and Burns to our club.

…apart from convincing Championship level players to step down a level to play for him to take the club forward 😂

I think the money we offered and their clubs' willingness to sell were also factors, mate. Let's not forget that Walton signed permanently under McKenna, it's not like the club and it's financial situation had no pulling power and only the sheer charisma of Paul Cook could attract decent players here. Look at the business McKenna then did: Davis, Broadhead, Hirst, all also dropping down a level or two to join us in League 1. I've always respected the phrase credit where credit's due but Cook gets a lot of credit that he doesn't really deserve.

Honestly the hold that half-arsed joker has on some fans is ridiculous.

We had an enormous budget for the third division, signing some decent players is the least we should have expected from that. Now had he actually got a team together for more than about six weeks he might be worthy of some praise.

He did a worse job than Lambert did in 20-21 and then, after signing all those new players, went back to blaming them for not being good enough just before he was sacked.

But, yeah other than that, well done Cooky.

The point of the OP is that Cook has a lasting legacy in our success with the signings he made so to say he’s worse than Lambert is incorrect. Only Cook’s fingerprints are partly on our success, not McCarthy’s, not Lambert’s and there’s only Jackson and Donacien left from Hurst.

I’ll raise a glass to Cook for being the only one of that mob who is still employable and still successful.

Disagree. The good signings that summer can be split into three categories, none of which can be attributed to great scouting by Paul Cook.

1) Players with track records at a higher level who any manager would have signed if given the budget (Walton, Chaplin, Morsy, Edmundson)

2) Players who look like shrewd gambles now but that he tried to get rid of shortly after signing (Hladky, Burgess)

3) Players who look like shrewd gambles now but were clearly signed by Ashton anyway (Burns)

We all know that you're a grumpy one who is addicted to arguing with the Ipswich fans.

And it is your big addiction.

But......FFS......can you stop it for today? It could be one of the greatest ever days in the ITFC history so stop it please. Stop spoiling it.

Have a walk, count to 10......whatever.......just calm down and don't spoil the day.

Surely we should raise a glass to Ashton getting the deals done, and the Americans funding them. Cook scribbling a few names down on the back of a fag packet is about the sum total of his achievements at Town.

Cook had 1 transfer window. Lambert had 5. There's no comparison.

Trust the process. Trust Phil.
