I've not heard anything but, assuming you have, it would make sense.
There's a lot of Restricted View in there, particularly towards the back. The club might want to look to get rid of the supporting pillars, especially given the number of seats that are being freed up up there by the press box move.
Lots of asbestos as well though, judging by the roof sheets, so it would be quite the exercise. | |

It would be a massive exercise to put in a new cantilever roof with very deep pilings just to get rid of a few restricted view seats so it would need to do a lot more. Perhaps they're looking at replicating the height of the new Cobbold opposite on the West stand and the additional benefits that would give. It would make sense to do at feasibility study at this design stage.
I wonder if the new press/tv facilities will be moved to the new Cobbold? That would make the above easier. |  |

As much as I would like to see this happen as a supporter, I'm not sure the cost v benefit stacks up.
Like the OP says, it wouldn't increase capacity.

I had heard that the club were considering removing the roof, adding more rows of seating at the back and a lounge. The new roof, seating and lounge would be supported by the structure of a new fanzone going on the practice pitch. |  | | |
