Let's just say the abuse we received back was sad. People, it seemed, wanted their seat more than they wanted their team to succeed.
Bold decision to annoy the highest paying ST holders isn’t it on 19:21 - Jun 3 with 9800 views | Kropotkin123 | I'm not sure what you are refering to. But assume it is to do with people buying season tickets for a certain product (eg, more leg room), and then not offering any form of compensation for changing that product (eg, being moved to a place with standard leg room). Comes across as mis-selling to me. I think think those impacted would easily win compensation through the relevant small claims. But understand they wouldn't want to take the club they support through small claims. Even if the club offered money at Planet Blue or behind the bar, then at least their is some recognition of error, attempt at customer service, and whateve they gave wouldn't even be a true cost in these examples, as the money would come back to the club with margin, compared to money. Sorry if you are refering to something different.

I'd imagine it's a short term solution to a problem that promotion has caused. Once the new Cobbold is redeveloped I'd imagine that will house Town fans entirely, the middle section will be premium seats, those being moved now will likely be given first choise on the seats and the away fans will move to one side of the Sir Alf Stand with the Staples area housing away coaches and allowing a route away from the stadium for the away fans similar to how it operates for us going away to more modern stadia. It's probably a necessary two step plan to deal with the disruption caused by promotion and can imagine this was all well thought out by Ashton a long time ago.

Cobbold Stand - D Block by LA_Tractor_Boy 1 Jun 2024 16:49Just seen a photo on Twitter which showed the stairwell removed and seats ripped out of D block in the Cobbold Stand.
Guess that means this section (and the seats behind) will now be used by away supporters.
Feel sorry for the long standing season ticket holders, but this should really help the atmosphere.

It’s just needs must, got to be done. Doubt the club wanted to do it but no other option. Think people affected should just suck it up and tell the club they want first refusal on new seats of the same kind in the new stand when it’s built as sure there will be better facilities of that kind put in. I get the anger at the communication being poor, bit annoying to find out via Twitter. [Post edited 4 Jun 2024 5:21]

Bold decision to annoy the highest paying ST holders isn’t it on 20:03 - Jun 3 with 9179 views | AlanG296 | Ashton has said anyone whose seat won't be available for next season due to the increased away allocation or the other changes needed to meet PL requirements will be contacted individually. I have no doubt that in any move the price they end up paying will be the usual price for that new seat, any overpayment already made will be refunded, and that if they don't want a seat now anything already paid will be fully refunded. They just need to wait till they're contacted.
Bold decision to annoy the highest paying ST holders isn’t it on 20:08 - Jun 3 with 9109 views | tuxcedo | I have sat in D block for over 50 years since I was an 11 year old boy. In the dark times when others gave up their tickets we kept ours, at an astronomical price, for two reasons. Our love for the club and the fact that they were the best seats in the ground. To show that loyalty and then get kicked out immediately we get success again is gut wrenching, and worst of all to find out by a Twitter post feels really disrespectful. I still haven’t received an email from the club. D block has been a big part of my life and I am feeling very sad this evening.

All to easy for those not affected to have a like it or lump it stance. I for one would be gutted if I had to move seats.

Nothing. Just saying how I’d feel. Be interesting when sections of the sir Alf is given to the away fans once the new Cobbold is built. [Post edited 3 Jun 2024 20:20]

Your ST seat is important especially when people have in some cases had them for so long, all the memories of those walks up the steps with loved ones and great days & nights (plus plenty of sh1t ones no doubt). Not to be too critical but I thought MA’s comments in the interview were a bit robotic and overly harsh with the ‘don’t get in touch with us’ stuff. Mine isn’t impacted as I’m not in that stand but I 100% get it. Having said that it does feel pretty unavoidable from the clubs perspective. A consequence of promotion unfortunately. Doesn’t make it any less annoying / disappointing / in some cases no doubt upsetting though. Football’s emotional for many, there’s a lot that comes with it, that’s why we love it. You have my sympathies those impacted. Consider yourselves as taking one for the team and all the other town fans the world over.

Given the club has no alternative to the number of seats it has to offer to away fans, the choice is relocate all the away fans elsewhere and chuck out 2000 plebs in the cheap seats and spend boatloads of cash configuring a temporary arrangement, or relocate 700 people in the posh seats and extend the existing away section spending a bit less. I get the sense of privilege those who’ve had the same seat for years must feel, but what choice does the club have? Those in the expensive seats: are they being offered alternatives or being bunged in with the steerage and asked to pay full wack or offered those seats at face value? If it’s the latter, I don’t see the problem as long as, as you suggest, the displaced are given priority when the stand is redeveloped. If that’s not good enough, TV will be showing all the games and it’ll allow 700 people an opportunity to see live games that otherwise wouldn’t have the chance. I sound a bit brutal on this - apologies. It’s just that I don’t see what else the club can do. I’d add that in 2001 I was kicked out of the north stand while it was replaced and wound up in the West Stand paying a lot more for a seat in a place I wasn’t keen on. The choice was go with it or give up the season ticket. I went with it, of course. As one of the bring your own tartan car rug and hat nobodies in the stalls (no rug - they’re for the middle tier grumblers), I am just pleased to have had the opportunity to see the team last season and 2024/5 in the Premier League.

To be honest, if I sat in Cobbold I’d have been expecting to lose my seat very soon, promotion or not…the f’ker is going to be knocked down as soon as conveniently possible!

Agree regarding your first paragraph. It wasn’t his finest hour on the Comms front, even if I understood what he was trying to say. The Cobbold stand was state of the art in 1971/75 (after it was extended) and felt posh - especially as it was by far the biggest stand in the ground. I Iast sat in it in 2019 and couldn’t get over how cramped and old it felt with dingy narrow stairways and limited facilities. My knees were up against the seat in front and I am not tall. It just felt every year of nearly 50 years old. I hope it is redeveloped as soon as is financially viable, as was the Portman/Cobbold stand back in the day.
Bold decision to annoy the highest paying ST holders isn’t it on 20:47 - Jun 3 with 8459 views | britbiker | I do get the annoyance. I remember having to switch from the old north stand to the south stand during the rebuild. I lost track of a lot of faces that I used to have casual match day conversations with. The new north stand had more seats so everything changed again on the return. I then had to move when they changed the allocation of the lowe tier to cater for the younger/noisier fans (totally understood why though). I tried the cobbold stand for one game and had to sit sideways due to lack of leg room (I'm six foot four). Now I'm in the west stand which is only marginally better leg wise. But the supporter in front still gives me harsh looks every now and again but I have nowhere else to stick my knees. Hoping the changes go well for all eventually. [Post edited 3 Jun 2024 20:48]

That’s me you barsteward!!!!! Keep your ffing knees to yourself you &*£#!. Only joking!!! The bloke behind in GG is certainly not your height!😃 I think the issues of an old traditional ground against a modern, purpose built one are coming to the fore. I really hope it keeps its identity but to do that and bring it into the 2020s and beyond and to satisfy demand is going to be costly and difficult.
Bold decision to annoy the highest paying ST holders isn’t it on 21:08 - Jun 3 with 8169 views | olimar | Were the requirements for away fans different back in 2002? Or was it based on the size of the ground at the start of the season and then didnt change? Assume the latter, as stadium would have been a similar size to now by the time we reached the last few games of 2001/02.
