Looks like Maguire has been left out of the final squad as he has not recovered from his injury and that Grealish is also going to be left out

Maguire injured. Grealish hasn’t played much. When he had, it wasn’t great. Neither omission is a surprise to me. Eze has proved to be a tricky customer.

I didn't watch it, but I heard Grealish played well the other night. I'm not saying the squad should be picked on the form shown in the last friendly, but why did he play if he had no chance of making the squad (unless he scored 5 goals or something) ?

Bit disappointed not to see Grealish in the squad to be honest. A good bench option and has big game experience for club & country.

Dropped from original 33-man shortlist: James Trafford (Burnley, goalkeeper), Jarrad Branthwaite (Everton, defender), Jarell Quansah (Liverpool, defender), Harry Maguire (Manchester United, defender), Curtis Jones (Liverpool, midfielder), Jack Grealish (Manchester City, forward), James Maddison (Tottenham, forward).

Bit short of centre backs surely? And Dunk looked all at sea when he had his chance.

I'm disappointed - always has the ability to retain the ball and win a free kick in and around the box, also think he is a hard worker with chasing the ball down.

I wonder whether the doubt is more around his injury and whether they are confident it could cope with the demands of an international tournament.

As he is not a guaranteed starter (like Kane etc), I don't think he would be worth the risk *if* the physios are not convinced the injury is 100%.

I honestly think we should and will go for Maguire this summer. Ticks a lot of boxes.

In the spirit of reconciliation and happiness at the end of the Banter Era (RIP) and as a result of promotion I have cleared out my ignore list. Look forwards to reading your posts!

Yeah I agree with the first paragraph. He brings something different, I’m not sure of the value in having Eze, Gordon & Bowen all on the bench if, as you would expect, we’re starting Foden & Saka in those wide roles in a big knockout game. Bit samey to me, whereas stylistically I think Grealish would’ve given us a bit more variation.

Still, it’s a nice problem to have.

Think we will go with
Pickford
Walker, Stones, Guehi, Shaw
Rice, Mainoo
Saka, Bellingham, Foden
Kane.

Foden being given a free role.
That X1 wins the tournament.

He earns over £300,000 a week at Utd.

He needs a move, United need to move him. If he has a year for eg left there will be a deal to be done with them paying off some of his outstanding wages. McK knows him. He’s always been good at lower profile clubs.

Grealish is very predictable.
Take 8 touches when 4 would do then cut inside and plays it backwards. Rarely beats a man. That role is for Eze or Gordon now, genuine pace and trickery and raw direct cut and thrust

Grealish has had one good season in my eyes (since Villa) and is completely overshadowed by every other Citeh midfielder, hence why he hasn’t played. 3 goals and 3 assists in all competitions is dire for an attacking player. I've never seen the fuss.. Eze, Gordon, Palmer and Bowen have all posted triple those sort of numbers at least and played significant amounts of football so Grealish has fallen well down the pecking order

Never going to happen, Varane has left them, Lindelof is also likely to go, us paying a wage Maguire would accept would be madness!

I don't think he's ever moved, he's always lived in Sheffield. (Not saying that he never would, but so far he's always managed to find clubs he could commute to without moving.)

Grealish has had a poor season with City so credit to Southgate for leaving him out & deciding form is more important then loyalty. Same goes for Maguire & Jordan Henderson.

He’s no better than Burgess IMO.

Grealish has a problem playing at Man City. He is effective as a roving 10. Picking up the ball in pockets and slipping past people. Out on the left, he is not quick enough to be an out and out winger and when he does pick up the ball in attacking spots, defences are more tightly packed than they would be further out in the middle, so his trickery will often run into a dead end. Hence he ends up passing backwards a lot when he used to just slip past a man and draw a foul or open things up.
