Elliot simms vs Delap on 07:05 - Jul 10 with 3020 views | trncbluearmy | No, slow and touch of a donkey, Delap completely different class Interestingly spending £15m+ on a CF who prefers ITFC to southampton has hardly caused a stir, amazing turnaround in the fortunes of the mighty blues
Elliot simms vs Delap on 07:26 - Jul 10 with 2839 views | Nutkins_Return | Would be gutted if we had gone for Simms. Massively disappointed with him at Cov. First half of the season he was woeful. Watched him live a few times and he does so little running and doesn't press. Loses a lot of battles which is frustrating for his size. Scored a few goals second half of season but his goal tally was flattered by two easy hattricksnagainst Maidstone and Rotherham same month. Doesn't fit the way we want to play. We need powerful runners up top.

I only saw him in the game against United but he ran his socks off all game. I get the general impression that Cov fans are pretty happy with how the season finished no? Both him and wright seem to be bedded in to how Robins wants to play.

They were not happy with Simms at all first half. More optimistic after second half of season but plenty of the fans don't think he's good enough or would cash in. He's not terrible as has a goal in him but we'd have to adapt how we play to fit him in. No thanks. He is painfully frustrating to watch in the majority of games.

Elliot simms vs Delap on 07:55 - Jul 10 with 2499 views | bournemouthblue | Delap is going to be versatile, he looks a strong runner and is tenacious, we are going to need that next season He is just as likely to play in Burns position or as a 10 I suspect, he took up a lot of positions down the wing for Hull last year He's essentially a swap for Jackson

This and as Nutkins says earlier , we need powerful runners up top. We will have much less possession this season and we will be breaking at speed , that’s why we are linked with so many fast players.think back to the goal at Barnsley in league 1 for example , Hirst runs from the halfway line, powerful run , holds ff a now premier league defender and scores. At start of last season , we were unstoppable , playing the same way, When Hirst got injured , it was a huge problem and we had to change style to suit Kieffer. Delap is fast and similar to Hirst so if we do get an injury we won’t need to alter the style of play so much. Also gIves options to allow Omari to be a 10 while Delap plays wide in Burns role. | | | | Login to get fewer ads
Elliot simms vs Delap on 08:48 - Jul 10 with 2038 views | Len_Brennan | Delap over Simms by a mile. Potential, versatility, touch, link ups & more suited to how we play. Also I think he's a couple of years younger.

While not impressing me a great deal, Simms improved second half of the season and looks a decent Championship player. But that’s about it. Premier League? Absolutely not. Coventry over paid for him in my view.
Elliot simms vs Delap on 08:54 - Jul 10 with 1969 views | Guthrum | Last summer, no. Too expensive for the Championship, took half the season to find his feet at Coventry, Hirst and Moore were better for almost certainly less outlay. Plus we didn't have that kind of money to spend before promotion. Now, it's a bit of a toss-up between them, except that Coventry are going to want more to cover the big fee they paid for Sims. Delap is a couple of years younger, so more room for development, but less experience.

True he has years to develop but delays stats don't justify the price tag I agree we shouldn't get simms but he justifies the price tag more so than delap time will tell and wonder how much armstrong would have cost ?
Elliot simms vs Delap on 09:52 - Jul 10 with 1572 views | _clive_baker_ | Ellis, and a complete moot point as we couldn’t stretch to that money last year. Now we can.
Elliot simms vs Delap on 10:13 - Jul 10 with 1435 views | Vic | I'm sure the question is well and truly answered - but for what's it's worth I think be looking at Delap over Simms every time. Sure, Simms developed over the season and I suspect KM could get him playing our way. But Delap sounds like a better player who already has and is using the attributes KM is looks for. Plus he has Prem experience. Every signing is a bit of a gamble and the cost of failure is now much bigger, but KM's judgement has been pretty good so far so I'm happy to continue to give him the keys.

Elliot simms vs Delap on 10:26 - Jul 10 with 1307 views | HighgateBlue | I think the answer is to trust Kieran. He has researched this a lot more than we have, understands the data which he gets from that research far better than we do, and has a far better understanding of how a player's strengths fit with the way he wants to play than we do. Simms was expensive (too much so for us last year) and took time to get going. He has now got going, and will do well in the Champ. It's very hard to know how he would make the step up, and what he would cost. I doubt Cov will want to give him away given that he is now chiming with their system, and any replacement would be a risk. They know we have money, and I wouldn't be surprised if they would want at least double what they paid. They don't have to sell. Delap has been an England youth international at every level and is still very young. Doubtless he is considered to have the right physical attributes and work ethic. I suppose the challenge will be to have him up to speed, working within our system, and improving fast. Because obviously we can't afford to use the first half of the season as an induction period. I don't reckon there are many managers in the business who are better at doing that than Kieran. And his record in slowly integrating players at just the right pace is astonishing. Hutch is the best example of that. Not too much too soon. I think we'll need a Moore type figure as a third striker - experienced and dependable, and Delap will get lots of minutes only once he's ready.
Elliot simms vs Delap on 10:29 - Jul 10 with 1275 views | RIPbobby | Nope. Delap will fit our system lovely. Lots of movement, Simms is very static.
Elliot simms vs Delap on 10:32 - Jul 10 with 1253 views | BloomBlue | Dyche let Simms go because of his lack of movement and didn't fit into Dyche's pressing style.

I agree with everything you say, but your first sentence is all we need to remember on this (and every other) issue. I include world peace and the meaning of life in that parenthesis.

Elliot simms vs Delap on 11:28 - Jul 10 with 1082 views | burnbudgiesburn | Simms is ok but has been very lethargic when i've seen him. With Delap you get a player who can genuinely play 2 different positions well. I think Delap has better technique as well.
Elliot simms vs Delap on 11:30 - Jul 10 with 1073 views | cressi | Delap would Not have been at City if he never had something about him. Simms not for me a decent championship striker who Coventry may well sell if they go up .
