Philogene alternative? 17:09 - Jul 10 with 2140 viewsStu_boy

Hopefully, he'll end up joining us but if he does decide to return to villa, i would imagine we'll look at an alternative option, i can't think of many similar to philogene apart from maybe whittaker who is more right sided which is already covered

Maybe clarke? Different in style though

Quite surprised we haven't gone for sarmiento. But I guess KM doesn't see any higher potential for him.

I think he's a great little player, but a little chaotic in how he plays.

It seems like we've passed on that option, pity as although he was mixed but towards the end I thought we saw big improvements the longer he worked with McK.

Jack Clarke is very talented. I wonder about the physicality/tracking back ability he has though. He looks very slight/slender.

Whittaker - played on the wing/10 and bagged tonnes of goals and assists for a weak side. Allegedly had a prior falling out with Rooney so may fancy a move.

I would imagine he's on the list but further down than Philogene and we may return to him if we don't get our main target.

The player and agent did know about the villa situation as did other clubs..so it was a case till the highest bid in and no more else movement from others and then villa will excercise their right to match bids and take him back only to either keep sell or loan..so it was out of the players hands only to make his feelings known with regards to first team playing time...it will probably be all finalised at end of week..either way

My concern isn't losing out on Philogene but that it might screw us over signing Greaves.

Didn't I see in another post somewhere phil said whittaker was a potential contingency plan ?

Believe that was for Hutchinson, but given Hutchinson, Philogene and Whitaker are all similar players, you’d expect that still to be the case now.

Clarke and Whittaker would be a serious downgrade on Philogene.

I’m not sure who we could look at but I’ll be disappointed at missing out on Philogene if one of those two is who we look at instead. Good players sure but feel PL may be a step up too much for them. I’m convinced Philogene will have a sparkling PL career

Everything suggests Greaves is done, doesn't it? Which, quietly, I am more pleased about than any other signing/potential signing. He's going to be class at the back for us.
