Rory Gallagher 22:23 - Jul 11 with 1544 viewsgtsb1966

Is there anyone on here who got to see him and his band live. I would've paid thousands to have been at this gig. Special mention to Gerry McAvoy who was, and still is, a fantastic bass player.

I envy you. Can't stop playing this at the moment. It's perfection 👌.

I watched this live on Facebook, it's the closest I have come. Band of Friends playing tribute to Rory Gallagher.

It has Gerry McAvoy and Ted McKenna in the band. As well as Davy Knowles doing a pretty good job filling in for Rory Gallagher.

They used to live stream some fantastic bands from this venue in New York state (It's owned by Daryl Hall), they no longer live stream bands, unfortunately.

But a lot of the old live streams are still available to re-watch. There are some real gems in there too.

Every time I saw him in Ipswich he invited Tony McPhee of The Groundhogs to join him on stage.
I see his (Rory's) guitar is up for sale.

Yes saw him at the long gone Pier Pavilion in Felixstowe. Was brilliant,as I remember from within the Newcy Brown and other inebriants haze I would have been in.

Yes. Saw him at the Gaumont in Ipswich. Can’t remember too much specific about it other than he was brilliant and his beat up looking guitar !

He toured very regularly in the mid-70s

One year I got to see him, Santana and John McLaughlin at the Colston Hall in Bristol all in the same month.

Saw him Friday and Saturday night running at the Great Western Festival in Bardney near Lincoln in 1972. He played in place of a pregnant Helen Reddy who couldn't make the flight from Australia on the second night and was just as blistering as the previous night but I can imagine that Helen Reddy fans who had braved the mud might have been nonplussed. Must have seen him at other festivals but can definitely remember going to the Gaumont in 1975 (?) but not sure that Tony McPhee joined him on stage that night.

[edit] Also, if you happen to be touring in Donegal I have just spoiled your surprise at driving through Ballyshannon and suddenly being surprised at Rory Gallagher stepping alongside you as you check the view from the driver's side window:

Saw him at least 3 times in the 1970s at what was once called the Colston Hall. An unsung legend. Tony Palmer’s Irish Tour ‘74 is superb.

Great Western Festival, Bardney, 1972. Tipped it down

Yes I did, February 1977 at The Gaumont.

Probably in the top three of gigs I have seen in Ipswich.

Those were the days of the crowd surging to the front of the stalls as soon as the band appeared.

Nearly fifty years ago now but still a memorable night.

My son has never heard of him.

I have failed as a father.

Saw him at the Gaumont in 1975. One of the first gigs I went to and I was blown away. Fantastic guitarist and particularly good live. Pretty certain I saw him again at the Gaumont but can't remember when. Also saw Band of Friends about 10 years in Cardiff with Gerry McAvoy. A dutch guitarist doing a fair impression of the Master

Saw him at the Queen Elizabeth Hall in about 1971, just after he'd split Taste and released his first solo album.
