Sorry if already discussed but now the GK spot has seemingly been filled the obvious gap in the squad now is adding another CM.

Other than Sheaf which was reported about a month ago and some loose links to Downes have there been any other rumours?

West Ham seem happy to let Downes go so if he was our first choice I would have imagined that would have been a done deal by now.

I would guess West Ham’s new manager wants a look at Downes. If he leaves it seems likely he’ll go back to Southampton anyway.

There’s no def info to this but I wonder if Oliver Skipp might move on from Spurs. Would very much suit the profile of player, young, English, positionally what we’re looking for and presumably known to McKenna as their Spurs careers overlapped. Wonder if Archie Gray arriving sees him bumped down the pecking order a bit. He even played a bit at left back for Spurs which might be seen as useful versatility.

Getting Downes signed seems to have been very high on Southampton's priority list all summer, but they haven't managed it yet.

I'd happily chip in on a CrowdFund if needed just to see Martin self combust!

With the Keeper costing less than i was expecting and the Greek guy and Philogene falling through I've been wondering if we may push the boat out and instead of spending 10-15m on a CM we look closer to 20-25m. Its such an important role and will be up against some great players.
No idea who though

Would probably be somebody we’re looking at but he has 3 years left on his contract and seems like somebody that’s a handy squad option for them who probably isn’t on massive wages.

Can’t see them looking to sell at a price we’d be willing to pay. But I’d be happy to be wrong on that.

My hobbies include being quiet during trips, clapping with songs, and diabetes.

Gustavo Hamer would be my choice, but not sure how desperate SU are to sell. Would be wonderful with our style of play. If we could get Georginio Rutter from Leeds as well, then our spending would be done. Any squad fillers we should look at the released player market.
If Hamer is a no go, then Sheaf is the other obvious target.

Renato Veiga - Signed for Chelsea but unlikely to be in their first team squad this year.

Tall, Athletic CM but can also cover CB and importantly LB.

Would be a cracking one of two season long loans!

Hamer and Sheaf are nothing like each other though.

Both would be good singings for different reasons.

Both would be ideal to be honest. Sheaf long term successor to Morsy but could also play with him. Hamer the more marauding replacement for Luongo. Can also play 10 if required.

Rutter in our 10 would be awesome. Reckon he would get 10 goals+ for us next season. I am a big fan of his, so may be a bit blinded by my reasoning.

Leeds paid 40 mil for rutter? Cant see them wanting to lose him for anything like what we would pay in transfer fees

Yes, good player and would fit in well I think. Also has the added bonus that the scum had him on loan and really liked him so it would annoy their fans. Win, win.

Have you ever thought of working in the medium industry? I'm sure you'd sucker many fools in with your great ability in being as vague as possible when spreading the word!

Oooh go on then give us a clue. I appreciate you might not be able to name the player outright but point us in the right direction.

English or Overseas? Young or Experienced? Currently playing for PL team? defensive or attacking?

He was really good for them. To nail down a place in what was a good championship side at 19 or 20 years old shows how good he is. You would think he’s at an age now where he wants regular football, I think we would be really attractive to him. Tactically seems beyond his years, really seems to have the footballing intelligence that McKenna would admire.

Ticks a lot of boxes I think, could be a natural successor to Massimo.

We need at least two and maybe three but I’m sure we will get them in.

We still want Flynn, but not sure it will happen. Possible he could stay at West Ham, but Southampton seems his most likely destination.
