I see that they're getting their excuses in nice and early that, apparently, the officers were at risk of having their firearms taken by members of the public.
Yes, that man lying prostrate on the ground was definitely reaching for that officer's gun before said officer used his head as a football.

Be interested to see the body cam footage to add some more context and either back up or kill the officers account.

The other interesting aspect (having watched the footage through at 0.25x speed to reduce the chaos somewhat) is the chap in the green top sat on the bench at the top-left of the screen.
For most of his time in frame he appears to be sat there with his hands up, clearly either surrendering or not wanting to get involved. Then, towards the end, one of the officers orders him to the ground, and delivers a kick to his gut/groin whilst he's on his knees.
Clearly there's the broader 'context' missing from before filming begins, but I cannot see any way in which this gent needed kicking to the ground.
As for the body cams, I'm assuming the batteries all mysteriously died at the point at which firearms were drawn, or they ended up obscured by something.
Even if the officers had been punched to the ground, none of them appeared to be incapacitated by the point at which they decided to play football with matey-boy's head.

Yep agree with all that, except, "As for the body cams, I'm assuming the batteries all mysteriously died at the point at which firearms were drawn, or they ended up obscured by something."
For firearms officers, this is a sackable offence if weapons are drawn and aimed.
However, no doubt there will be 'operational reasons' that the footage can't be released.

If there's CCTV footage, then I guess that will see the light of day soon enough one way or another.
Has anyone ever looked at their own postings for last day or so? Oh my... so sorry. Was Ullaa

Here if people don’t want to click a dodgy link…
Not been able to watch the video. Only found a 10 second clip online.
My usual response is that videos posted online give little context of the situation in real time, but from what I’ve seen I’m not sure how that falls into the any of the categories for use of force and understandably lots of questions to be asked.
In response to some of the earlier points, some forces (potentially GMP) have bodyworn that can be live linked back to force control. Also with a few officers there and CCTV there will be officer and commercial footage of the incident, not a chance of this not being covered by all angles.
The fact that armed response were sent indicated that the suspect was a high risk offender otherwise they wouldn’t distract firearms officers from applying oil to their biceps and eating their crayons for nothing. I would be interested to know what this guy was wanted for
I imagine longer clips are/will be available and perhaps might be in the better interests of GMP to actually share it rather than the usual policies from forces to write vague responses and not let footage be widely seen along with detailed information
* I know I’ll be pulled up for anything I write re policing so I’m going to reiterate from what I’ve seen there is nothing that would justify the kick followed by the stomp… But more information and footage will be available in time which may well incriminate the officers further

It was in an international airport, that's a standard deployment for firearms officers. They were already there, not dispatched.

As it's an airport setting, I'd assume that firearms officers may just have been deployed there as a matter of course (terrorist target and all that) rather than having been specifically deployed against a particular threat.

There are armed police at every airport. All the time.
So, here's the thing, if the officer is a scumbag then he'll be dealt with properly, as per the British law and legal system, the way it should be.. he'll be investigated, suspended, sacked or whatever by his employer... He could have charges made against him, regarding a criminal prosecution..
Now here's the but... Every smart arse has a smart phone these days and context in any interaction with law enforcement is always needed... These videos are always posted and might only be a fraction of what had actually happened.. doesn't excuse what the officer did, far from it.. but the disciplinary process and the law and legal system will take its course

I admire your optimism regarding due process. Decades of evidence to the contrary would suggest otherwise, though.

There are armed police at every airport. All the time.
Each airport will have individual contracts with their local police force.. and nationally there is a specific target hours minimum at airports, but no airport has a dedicated armed policing presence 24/7 they will be officers station at their headquarters that routinely attend on rotations to hit specified hours
What Each airport will have, is a dedicated ‘unarmed’ policing team which are part paid for by the airport. Basically a neighbourhood policing role but solely for the grounds of the airport including the terminal(s) working closely with the airport and its security
These ‘unarmed’ officers are generally the officers that will attend incidents and make the arrests when there is a notified inbound passenger flagged by immigration or other agencies etc.

"A female officer suffered a broken nose".
I think our heroes motivation is clearer. Last bloke I heard of did that it ended very poorly.
Cousin of mine (Kent Police) dropped a guy that six officers were struggling to restrain. He did 6 months. And that's the days before camera phones or body cam.
This fella already looks spark out when he gets his stamp in.
