What's LOL sitters? We might dislike the bloke but he's 38 got his side promoted including a 25 game unbeaten run in the middle of the season. He is known as good young manager isn't he?

He should’ve had that squad in second easily, at least. Scraped through to promotion in the end, got lucky. Sacked by Christmas. [Post edited 1 Aug 18:55]

I have to admit I LOL'd because you described Ipswich while inadvertently trying to do us down...

not sure about 2nd, leeds squad on paper was better than theirs. however, should have been well ahead of our squad if it wasn't for coming up against a younger, better manager

just had a look at the betting odds on 18:54 - Aug 1 with 2893 views | JakeITFC | Some models had Leicester/Leeds/Southampton as better rated than us end of last season and not much has changed this off-season to change that - both secured key loan players from last season, we’ve kept McKenna etc. I’ll personally be on Saints at odds against to go down - don’t rate Martin or them particularly highly and can’t really see how their style is going to perform better at this level.

just had a look at the betting odds on 20:00 - Aug 1 with 2443 views | Stenvict | Presumably, the bookies consider us to be this seasons Luton. Lucky to have got promoted, serious underdogs etc. And they'll be taking a potential Leicester points deduction into consideration, otherwise we'd be favourites to go down.

Yeah, in terms of Southampton they've got an inflexible coach who just tries to regurgitate top level teams style/strategy without the intellect. Was a squad that did fine but not as successful as it should have been in the Champ but put that in the Prem where they don't have a 100-200m advantage and they could get torn to shreds. Really don't rate him as a manager a doubt he's had an original idea in his life
just had a look at the betting odds on 20:24 - Aug 1 with 2322 views | Illinoisblue | Good. The more people write us off the better. 17th is the prize. Nothing else matters. We need to become as bland and midtable as Palace are. Slow progress. Redo the ground. Maybe win a cup. A lot of pieces of this project could fall away if we get relegated at the first attempt.

maybe, but luton were 16 points worse than us in a weaker league. you're right about leicester though, they'd be rightly above both of us without the points deduction hanging over them

just had a look at the betting odds on 06:44 - Aug 2 with 1871 views | PioneerBlue | Ryland is a well know face and their squad play for player was more technically capable than ours last season. That would be my guess. We all know that it was the less definable super powers that brought us home over the likes of Leeds and Soton, we will be calling upon these powers in abundance this season!

just had a look at the betting odds on 07:33 - Aug 2 with 1790 views | jayessess | I suppose the serious reasons would be: Long-standing Premier League club with all that implies in terms of structure off the pitch. Their squad will have far more experience of the PL. Some of their underlying metrics were better than ours last season (xG for) The unserious ones: Kneejerk assumption we're a lesser club because we've not been in the PL for a long time

just had a look at the betting odds on 08:26 - Aug 2 with 1661 views | Garv | I still can't believe they got prompted. After their collapse against Cardiff (happens to the best of us), last gasp loss to us and a dreary home defeat to Stoke, they were out of the running for autos and everyone was wondering how they'd get any momentum for a play off push. I wonder how much that win at Leeds on the last day played a part.

just had a look at the betting odds on 09:15 - Aug 2 with 1536 views | ElephantintheRoom | Possibly because they ran rings around Town whilst contriving to lose 3-2? Statistically you can’t be that unlucky 38 times. Also Town were flat track bullies last season, frequently outplayed by top six teams.

just had a look at the betting odds on 09:21 - Aug 2 with 1512 views | baxterbasics | Surely the correct answer is because that's where punters money is going? Aren't bookies odds at least partially determined by demand? It's not an out an out probability calculation. If more people are betting on Southampton, the odds will get shorter for them.

Yes and no - the bookmakers/punters both have to have an opening view of what makes the right price (for example they don't open at Manchester City to be 100/1 to win the league and then the punters smash it in to make the price right, they take a view first). They also have to keep the market (relatively) balanced to 100% - that is to say if somebody has a very strong view that Southampton will stay up then it implies that the market has to change as it means Ipswich/Leicester/Everton (for example) are more likely to go down and their prices change accordingly. With Premier League betting being so liquid and so well known (that is to say everyone watches it and a lot of people bet on it) there isn't really many secrets and therefore it bets pretty close to 100% (i.e. the bookmakers aren't creating a huge overround) and so the market should be close to reflecting the genuine views of both bookies and punters at any given point in time.

So McKenna's smarmy while Martin is a good young manager? You really do not have a clue.

Apart from that 1 time 3 years ago donnie. You've called him smarmy more than I did. Shame you've still got that 1 post in your head from 3 years ago. On martin. The OP asked about the odds. I just replied with why sky see them higher. Its not a comparison manager v manager. Its just the case they have a good young manager who took side up in first season after being relegated. We don't have to agree with it. It's just how media see it.
