A sad day people. 04:37 - Aug 8 with 2346 views | Benters | I managed to get as far as 7th August using my water butts to water my plants, and yesterday I had to start using my hose pipe. Still that’s pretty good I guess,we do need rain though everything is so dry in my garden in North Essex.

Out of interest Joe, how many panels do you have and do you have any battery storage? Interested as my consumption of electricity matches yours almost to the kwh and I've been thinking seriously about solar.

I’ve got 15 panels and an 8.2kwh battery, it’s been a fantastic investment Even in the winter I can charge overnight at 15p a unit opposed to paying 45p during the day so basically save £2.50 a day even when it’s not sunny at a minimum

Lucky you.Mind you I have just inherited a load of plants in pots and tubs,so they are extra things that need watering.

That’s really good Joe,my neighbour last year had a some solar panels put on his house and garage. The thing with those is the outlay I guess, how long the panels last, and how long it takes to redeem the cost.

I reckon with a good battery it is less than a decade now quite easily - think ours will be 5-6 years because of energy prices but really hard to tell Problem is all the sales people tell you they add loads of value to your house etc but think that's not the case, they might help it sell a bit quicker at best....but for us they've been great and not planning on moving for a few years so will def work out for us

the money you get from selling it back to the grid is much less for new panels, but the panels themselves are much cheaper and batteries are now realistic additions. i'd still highly recommend it from a financial point of view, let alone the wider benefits

We have loads of new estates being built in Benters and would you believe the cheapest new houses come with solar panels.

How much did that set up cost you? (Hope you don't consider that an intrusive question!)

My neighbour has had 11 put on their house and I believe they said it would take 13 years to cover the cost of having them done. It has to be £1000 a panel as a guess,I may be miles out though. What about the life of the panel, they don’t last forever.
