personally, there isn't a better time to play Liverpool. I'm not expecting some miracle to happen, but with the multiple of variants - (were back, they have a new manager, first game jitters etc.) It could go in any direction, definitely capable of a draw, but like with any new team - it's never out of the realms of possibility! I'll enjoy it whatever the outcome - as long as we give our all. |  | | |

This is where our clubs differ. No defeat is a 'good result' unless you've got the sort of tinpot loser mentality that sees your club never win anything, yo-yo up to the premier league every so often to make up the numbers with the ambition of being 'in the top 26 in the country' and getting humped by Oxford on the opening day. Proper small time mentality that becomes self fulfilling and perhaps goes some way to explaining the empty trophy cabinet.
You don't punch above your weight as market town and win European honours, FA Cups and become champions of England with that mentality. We're Ipswich Town. We can play well and lose, but 0-3 home defeats aren't ever 'good results' however much an underdog we are.
In answer to the OP, clearly any points on the board come full time would be a fantastic start and real confidence booster to the whole squad. |  | | |

Based on Liverpool's record last season, regardless of who they played they roughly won about 50%, drew 35% and lost 15% of their away games.
Based on Man City's record last season, regardless of who they played they roughly won 75% and drew 25% of their home games.
Our first 2 games - at home against a team who lost 3 of their 19 away games, and away to the champions who were unbeaten at home all season.
It's a huge task, but the players will be up for it; I actually think having to work with a smaller squad in pre-season could work in our favour - not as many player permutations would make it easier to bed in the new players, plus we carry over the feelgood factor from last season. Can then use the last 2 weeks of the transfer window to bring in the best players we possibly can to supplement the squad, who we can then integrate in the international break in a sort of 2nd pre-season.
Regardless of the results, just want to see players adapting to and getting up to speed in the Prem - playing 2 of the better teams so early will give them a benchmark for the rest of the season. |  |

I’m still in the ‘I’ll be happy if we don’t get embarrassed camp’.
For me, we’ve changed the squad so much (unavoidably) I think we might lose our momentum and flow a little. That plus the obvious gulf in quality, even the established teams like Brighton are in the end of a 5-0 now and again.
These two games aren’t the whole season through, we’ll pick up points elsewhere. Hopefully my pessimism is misplaced, but given my age I’ve mostly seen adversity as a Town fan! | | | |
