He didnt dawdle on it at all. He's told to put his foot on it and hold on to the ball. The whole point is that you invite the opposing player on and then play the ball late and hence you free a player up and in theory can pass out from the back as you have an extra outfield player.
Is he has as good as Muric with his feet no. Would there have been a notable difference against that caliber of opponent? Doubtful. Had a brilliant game today.
I do agree Muric will be an upgrade but Walton showed what a class keeper he is. | |

I had the same.conversation with a nice gentleman on the train on the way home. Yes, when drawing the press, intentional ‘dawdling’ is good. But when you’ve just won possession deep in your own half, and there is an opening to break quickly, you need your goalkeeper to spot this and react quickly.
I rate Walton highly, and like how he commands the box, but today there were a few occasions when he missed to opportunity to start a fast break from the back. I’m sure this will be noted in the game review, and an area to work on for the future. Overall Walton had a great game, and does deserve much respect for how he’s waited patiently on the bench for a year. A consummate professional. | | | |

I love the poetry and symmetry of this yesterday. Cruel on Walton to miss out last season despite people’s claims that Hladky was key to our success. The fact history repeated itself in his favour almost exactly one year on is a beautiful irony I hope goes in his favour.

Thought it showed real bravery from him, the coaching staff and the team for us to to just play our normal way against one of the best presses in world football and I’m hopeful that they would have gained tremendous confidence from it. |  | | |
