Managed Ipswich mid thirties for 15 months before Scott Duncan took over. Oversaw the club’s entry into the Southern League and transition to professionalism.
He did a good job but was suddenly fired. The reason was never made public, though it had nothing to do with his stint as ITFC manager.

I believe he had an affair with a barmaid, which wasn't seen as befitting a Town manager. Can't confirm that, but I suspect all parties are long gone and can't sue me.

And there was I trying to be subtle.
I did read somewhere or hear years ago that it was an affair, an assignation (great word) and that was his lot. Not in keeping with the high standards of the club, don’t y’know.
Interestingly, O’Brien served at the Battle of Jutland in 1916 on HMS Chester. Chester was a new light cruiser. It was made famous by Jack Cornwell VC, who carried on at his gun while mortally wounded. Chester had been caught in a hail of 5.9 inch shells and most of the deck crews were killed. Mick O’Brien was one of the few survivors.
The ship survived and the gun operated by Cornwell resides in London’s Imperial War Museum.

Also pretty sure we only started hearing noise about Ogbene after I’d posted this…expect Olmo, Onana and O’Riley through the door before the week’s out
