We’ve WAYYYYY bigger fish in the fryer.

2 in tomorrow. One of which is an outrageous target for any team trying to just stay up as the bare minimum. But my word this place will universally ejaculate if we land him.

Edit - And no I’m not going to name him so please nobody bother messaging me to ask. If it even hinders things 0.001%, I’d rather not risk it.

I’d also add that they’re only names mentioned. The chance of the above player even wanting to come is probably slim. Would be very much incredible though

I just hope it's Callum Wilson, so Frimmers can have a field day

OK, you have me very interested / distracted.

So, to be clear, you are saying we are in for two players:
1. a specific striker replacement; and
2. a second player, who is not necessarily a striker, but would be an extraordinary signing.

Is that correct?

Which raises two more questions:
1. are we talking Kalvin Phillips level of wow, or even higher than that?
2. are you allowed to say whether from an English club or elsewhere?

1. Got to be higher! In the cold light of day Phillips was a sensible shout IMO, without drawing away from Frimley's brilliance. He was only sometimes making the bench for West Ham in the second half of his loan spell, otherwise left out of the team altogether for tactical reasons. He quickly became their 4th choice defensive midfielder. Ward-Prowse on the other hand, who was also linked here and would have been a quite sensational signing, played 37 PL games for West Ham last season, starting 34 and mostly playing 90 minutes.

The 'wow' aspect of the Phillips signing really is that we've signed someone who was so well thought of a couple of years ago, rather than beyond us today. Who would have thought that England's player of 2021 would go from a huge City move to our level in such a short of space of time, and that our level would rise to "lowly Premier League team" in the same time-frame? That's extraordinary but time will tell if Phillips becomes extraordinarily good for us.

If I were to think of players I'd put about a 300/1 chance of us signing before today...

The well-known striker out of contract at Everton at the end of the season who they are looking at getting shot of. On 100k per week and pretty poor injury record though so surely couldn't be him.

Poll: Assume we have the money for one more big signing. Where do you spend it?

Think the Everton fan meltdown would be worse than losing on pens to a L2 side in the fizzy cup.
