Some might say an obligation might have worked in our favour in case we lost the player after the loan. Appears we were the ones who pulled out of the deal though

An obligation can’t possibly be better, an option gives us the power to buy him or not buy him

Not sure. If we had an option to buy it would still be in our hands. We'd just be able to choose whether to take it or not, rather than an obligation which forces our hand. Considering the way we pursued him, to the detriment of all other targets, I do not understand why we did not strike a deal as an option to buy. Unless Chelsea were being petty and didn't offer us that.

The argument t may have been on finer details such as loan fee versus rehabilitation time etc etc. Everton are desperate and happy to have their pants pulled down. We’re not. If an option is not in our hands, what would be the point of an option? Edit sorry misread it I think I am already agreeing with you [Post edited 30 Aug 2024 23:39]

After all, they are going to cop anther FFP points deduction (allegedly) anyway so they may as well go for broke (sic.)

I think we F'd up as we thought Nelson was going to be done so switched using our loan space for Nelson and now we didn't get either! For once I think we might have had a bad day in a transfer window and that hasn't happened in recent windows. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

We signed Camara and Ahadme one deadline day. If we are counting that as recent.

I didn't mention deadline day. I just said a bad day in the transfer window. I think we might have been out thought or out negotiated as maybe we thought we held all the cards. Lots we don't know, all assumptions. I haven't seen anything to indicate the reason for Nelson reversal, was it the player himself, or was it Arsenal as Fulham came back late with a better loan proposal. As for Broja it could be as suggested by another that Everton will pay more wages so could get the option deal as I think our deals were based on Chelsea covering wages so there recoup of costs was the obligation to buy if we stayed up.

I am pleased we didn’t get either Broja or Nelson. Broja would have too risky with his Injury history, and Nelson was never seriously interested in playing for us. Was just a little strange to put all the effort into the risky signing and no one else when we clearly needed another striker. Let’s just hope Delap stays fit, and Hirst doesn’t get injured again after returning. [Post edited 31 Aug 2024 7:53]

Everton have Broja option not obligation for £30m on 07:35 - Aug 31 with 1449 views | USA | We have no idea the details of either deal so you can’t say Everton got a better deal. Everton are much more desperate so may have bowed down to player or Chelsea which enabled them to get it over the line. We may have dodged a bullet. But it’s unlikely we’ll ever know
