Carsley wont sing the national anthem 08:01 - Sep 7 with 9612 viewsgtsb1966

making the news today and even on the front page of the Mail. Can't see why they make such big news of it. I'm sure most of the country couldn't give a toss.

Gone all woke innit. Everyone knows it was supposed to be a song about a women, not a man.

Ah well, it’s upset that odd flyingkickbybgunn individual as well as texters, so he’s probably singing (or not) from the right hymn sheet.

Three down….just two more to go..(WhatsApp Group, July 2025)

Well I think there are levels of responsibility when it comes to managing a national side, he doesn't mind taking on the role does he, you can't have both ways.

There's just no standards anymore ....

You can have it both ways.

Why would it be part of the job?

I'm English and I don't want to sing it. Why does it matter?

You silly sausage!

Back in the day then cameras would pan along the players during the anthem. Some sang it, some didn't. It was a personal choice.

Watch this from the 1990 World Cup Semi Final.

Several players don't sing it. Parker, Gazza, Walker and Shilton look to me like they aren't singing when the camera is on them.

Which of those weren't proud to play for England? Or didn't care?

And, dare I say it, when the camera cuts to Sir Bobby at the end, his mouth is firmly closed. It doesn't look to me like he has just been belting out the anthem.

Standing respectfully or singing the anthem are both fine. Always have been.

If someone is a citizen of another nation then it is more appropriate for them to stand (if able) respectfully.

Edit: because I missed the link!

I believe youll find they did, because they respected the expectations put upon them as managers of the England team to do so and all that comes with the job, and they were being paid handsomely to do so.

Capello didn't, and said why, Sven tried to.

I imagine the Italian FA will now sack off of their players and staff

Sorry Keno- that's a great joke, and I thought "What sort of idiot would downvote that?" And tried to click on the number to see who, but caught the down arrow with my thumb.

So the answer to my question is now "Me".
