Morsy - 4th inductee to an exclusive club 19:24 - Sep 21 with 4314 viewsPendejo

If I am correct he's the 4th member of the "Three Tier Club", that is players who have scored for Ipswich in 1st, 2nd and 3rd tier.

Hail to the Captain!

Who at the other three? Anyone?

Kieron McKenna is cut from the Alex Ferguson cloth of never give up until The final whistle blows, and every player that comes here buys in to it , it speaks volumes.!!

The man deserves a big place in the history of our club so it’s great that his name sits alongside some club legends from yesteryear.

Testimonials aren’t a thing any more but I’d love to see the club make an exception for him when he retires. Yes, he’s only been here 3 years and footballers these days are far better played than their predecessors but his career earnings will be far less than they should have been. Criminal that a player with such ability and attitude is only getting the chance to show the world what he can do at the tail end of his career. Absolutely legend, I love the bloke.

That is Jimmy (Sticks) Leadbetter.
Nobody called him Jimmy, everybody said "Sticks" on account of his legs.

Presumably we could have a few more follow this season.

I’d guess, with decreasing confidence Chaplin, Burns, Hirst, Davis, Luongo, and Woolf

I would.be disapointed if at least 4 of them did not add to the list.

wasn’t Alec Ferguson was cut from the cloth that said never give up until I tell the ref he can blow the final whistle?

Excellent spot that deserves more attention. As per swede, Phillips, Elsworthy and Leadbetter by my reckoning.

I think he's also become one of only 8 (I believe) players to score in all of the top four flights of English football. He scored in League Two for Port Vale and Chesterfield.

I've seen a list of seven names on several sites, but i think it's just a selection thar a few sites have run with. Szmodics has obviously completed the four just recently, but going back i can think of two more players who played for Colchester who i suspect did it, which makes me think there must be a lot more than eight.

I must have found the same list with seven in it but have found more since posting. Troy Deeney, for one, who managed it at FGR last year.

In the Daily Mirror report it noted that Sam Morsy was the 71st player who did it, there is a list from back in February of 69 players so Szmodics must have been number 70....but when you look at that list it is 69 players who have scored in top 4 tiers, FA Cup, League Cup and major European competition so must be way more than the 69 (or 71)

A number of Ipswich players on the list:
Rod Belfitt
Trevor Whymark
Bryan Hamilton
Terry Austin
Eric Gates
Mark Stein (although only a short loan here)
Marcus Stewart
Hermann Hreidarsson
Tommy Miller

I think there might be literally hundreds of players in this category, going back to when top players earned much less than they do now and dropped down the leagues. (Frank Worthington, for example) I think It's easier to notice looking from the bottom up (from a Colchester perspective, say, rather than an Ipswich one) because you tended to notice the famous players who land up in the fourth tier. Jimmy Case scored in all four leagues, I'm pretty certain.

Ted Phillips banged in a load of goals in one season for Colchester in the 4th. Freddie Sears I think did it unusually by going 1st tier, 3rd tier, 2nd tier, 4th tier. I did think Gavin Johnson might be a contender, but I think it turns out all his three seasons for Wigan were in tier 1 and he didn't score in tier 2.

I think there might be quite a few players in the PL who have played a lot on loan in their early days. e.g Jacob Murphy (Newcastle) scored for Southend, Blackpool, Scunthorpe and Colchester while on loan from Norwich, and I think Morsy and Szmodics are in a fairly elite group in that they have worked their way up, Tier 4, 3, 2, 1 for clubs they 'belonged to' rather than on loan.

p.s. sorry ITFCJoe, I was typing this while you were writing. Your information is much better than my rambling guesses!
