If this discourse carries on, we're basically Twitter 09:39 - Oct 4 with 3542 viewswkj

There is a lot of divisionism in social media and a LOT of learning needs to happen to improve a lot of anxieties that exist in the world. TWTD forums has kind of gone the same way as mass social media where a lot of opinions are presented as fact, with links to sources (often spurious) just to back them up.

Make no mistake, the world isn't hurting because of a lefty woke agenda and the conservative view isn't the return of the Nazi's, but its because we've fallen into the fox hole of populism and tribal thinking. UK's strength was always in it's ability to be objective and suspicious of the narrative until it was beyond a doubt.

Yet in the last decade, we're quite happy to attack anything that isn't in line with our own point of view, and this often mean people who are in our communities. Is there a point when we can go back to respecting that we're all town fans, and the divisive topics are more about asking questions than stating made up facts?

Don't get me wrong, in my younger years on this forum, I've had instances of being a knob which I am more than happy to admit to, but there is being a nob and then there is being cruel to people - the latter is something that happens on social media and on here.

I already know a subset of users say "Be Kind" in parody, but that isn't what I'm trying to say. Be objective and question BS, don't peddle BS as a weapon - it just makes this place crap at times.

Social media woulda been the crappiest pub in town back in the day. Woulda been the place the local teenage goths drank in. The Queens Head in Haverhill..

Monday Nights at the Corn Hill was the best gothspot ever!

(Which is what I thought at the time)

I guess not everyone is as fully informed and thoroughly enlightened as you. I'm sure I myself have sometimes posted things from Twitter in good faith as they seemed perfectly credible, only to be corrected by more knowledgeable people on here, and that's fine.

Better to expose things to the light of day & have them discredited (if that's warranted) than to be scared of ever posting anything in case it might not pass muster.

I rarely get involved in any of the contentious discussions on here as I've got better things to do with my time, but a big problem - and this is increasing in society in general - is that some people cannot and will not accept other people's opinion or when they are wrong about something, which almost without fail leads to arguments / conflict etc.

It's almost as though people have to be seen to "win" an argument rather than accept others beliefs or views might be different (or correct).

No-one is right 100% of the time, so would it really be that difficult for everyone to take a step back and consider all of the options/facts occasionally, rather than try to force their opinion on others?

Re your last sentence - I think the majority actually do step back and reconsider if pulled up, including me. It’s a minority that plough on and/or double down .

You most certainly do, but there are a few who seem to just get a death grip on things and cant help themselves. I had not posted on here for about 6 or 7 weeks before seeing something that mocked my faith and said enough is enough.

I just avoid those hot topic posts nowadays.
I used to make pointless and tasteless remarks - I still do.
However, I soon realised that on serious topics those sort of posts are not welcome.

Don't believe a word I say. I'm only kidding. Or am I?
