Assume Tuanzebe won’t be out for long with a bad cut to his thumb 18:49 - Oct 8 with 3245 viewsWallingford_Boy

Apologies if discussed but is he likely to be back for Everton?

Glad it’s not knee/hamstring or anything leg related!

RIP Sir Bobby

Apparently it might depend on what he actually cut. If it's tendon damage and they need the tendon to 'knit' properly again then they will need to minimise the risk of moving it - that could be a couple of month apparently.

If it's 'just' a deep cut that hasn't hit anything too major then it could be much less.

Sounds very much like a tendon. As he's likely picking something up in the washing up water it's likely to be the flexor tendon, which makes thd thim " grip" things. There's a small window for reattachment, but a lengthy rehab period from several weeks to several months. Damage to a thumb tendon us far more serious interest of dexterity / function than other fingers. Forget football for a moment, this is the a really bad injury for him to get, in terms of normal life.

Speedy recovery Axel. We're thinking of you.

Jesus, didn’t realise it’s was so bad (and just read the TWTD article), so yeah definitely out for a couple of weeks minimum.

Time for Johnson to show us why west ham rated him so highly!

They rated him so highly that they wanted to tie him down for 7 years on £20,000 p/w. They viewed him as an ultra-cheap jack-of-all-trades, sadly.

Other than the length of contract and wage p/w…. You’re spot on.

Even if any of that was true, which it's not, the fact they still viewed him as worthy of a contract is probably a sign that they thought he was worth keeping around. So I'm not really sure what point you're trying badly to make here

I'd suggest it's the risk of aggravating the injury rather than the injury itself will keep him out for a while.

I'm not a doctor, nor one of those people with insider knowledge, or the type of guy to advocate rushing someone back from injury before ready.

But Im thinking... not only do you not need your hand for football, you get penalised for using it. I'm just surprised it cant be taped and managed through?

Jason Pierre Paul (NFL player) blew multiple fingers off holding an exploding firework, and had his hand taped into a fist to keep playing (and you actually do need to grip stuff at his position).

I mean none of this matters, its all just what was in my brain during brekkie, and Axel will be back bossing it when he is ready. He can use the time to get the one handed Hungry Hippos record lol.

Of course you need your hands to play football!

Especially a defender, who needs to get tight and mark opposition players. Also, at right back, and I can't remember, but presumably he has throw in duties down his side.

Get well soon Axel.

I could have made that injury at least a 6 week sick note but I worked in a hum-drum job so who could blame me.

Don't believe a word I say. I'm only kidding. Or am I?

This was posted on a previous thread about Axel's mishap, and is worth posting here, I think. An amputation heals WAY quicker than a complex nerve/ligament/tendon repair. Don't forget, that this is about more than just football for him. He needs a fully functional thumb for getting along in life especially so if it is his dominant hand.

This athlete CHOSE amputation rather than rehab to get to the Olympics. But it was a finger,.not a thumb. Huge difference.
