Best Prem Signings - O'Shea 11:12 - Oct 12 with 3283 views | urbanpenguin | A listicle in the Guardian on the best Summer Premier League signings. Was surprised Delap wasn't in, but O'Shea is at No.3: https://www.theguardian.com/football/who-scored-blog/2024/oct/12/best-signings-s 3) Dara O’Shea (Ipswich) – 7.18 rating While he was unable to prevent Ipswich from falling to a heavy 4-1 loss against West Ham prior to the international break, Dara O’Shea has proven a shrewd piece of business by the Tractor Boys. The 25-year-old is winning more aerial duels per game (4.8) than any other defender in the Premier League and while he is yet to be on the winning side for Ipswich following his arrival from Burnley, it’s only a matter of time before they’re able to claim a first victory following their return to the top flight.
Best Prem Signings - O'Shea on 11:29 - Oct 12 with 3165 views | FrimleyBlue | As I've said the wrong cb had been getting the blame for things over the past few games. He's rusty granted but he's learning about the team and the way we play. But he's a solid solid signing.

Difficult to answer without it being twisted into saying delaps been rubbish. But.. if you take away the goals scored. Perhaps the other aspects of the game he's not been that good... Passing. Dribbles. Winning headers. Duels. Etc? Depends how the report and the players included are chosen i guess.

Whoscored.com is the footy stats website that Sky use for their teams of the week - they provide player ratings for all games in the main competitions, down to League Two I think as well European competitions. This article is written by a Whoscored employee and is a countdown of the 10 new signings with the highest average rating in the league so far. O'Shea will have benefitted from missing City and Liverpool, while Delap has been a 'moments' player this season in the main. He outmuscled Quansah in the first half against Liverpool and almost scored from his own half against Brighton, but I doubt his overall performance in those two, City or Southampton would have earned him much over 6/10, pulling down his average. O'Shea wins a high percentage of his 'duels' with attackers and these player algorithms love that stuff, hence why he's rated decently despite the West Hammering.* *, when all defenders will have received low scores I expect. Defence over all other positions is the hardest to walk into a perform for me (closely followed by CM). Takes time to build up partnerships and understandings. Classic case for me was Vidic and Ferdinand. People forget Vidic was a fish out of water and lots of people saying not good enough for Utd when he started there. O'Shea and Greaves has a lot of potential for me. O'Shea is very proactive in his defending and heading and an excellent athlete. Greaves similar but physically bigger. In the Prem you have to have the athleticism for me unless you are an absolutely outstanding reader of the game. Woolfy is premier league quality on the ball (if he is switched on and at it I'd argue he's out best defender on the ball). Off the ball both in terms of Lazer focus and speed/athleticism he isn't at the same level. I still believe Woolfy can play at the level (weirdly probably more if we stay up and have better players and more of the ball). Where we are doing much more of the defending O'Shea and Greaves are stronger.

Someone commented to me last week that Delaps goals tilly whilst good, might actually be masking the less developed aspects of his game. You've alluded to a few, but my friend said, Delap doesn't lead the line and bri g others into play like Hirst does. Thumbs not a criticism, but his observations. Delap is very young, and has done phenomenally well, and as McKenba and others have stated, he's got so much more to come in his game. We've got a helluva striker in the making here, and he couldn't be at a better club to develop IMHO. But I do wonder if McKenna needs to mix it up a little now. Opponents won't take long to work out how to minimise Delap's current honned skill levels. So to start with Hirst offers a totally different striker up front. Either play Delap wide right at Burns expense, or unleash Delap on a tiring defence ( Hirst's closing down and work rate are phenomenal in my view), snd Delap on 70 mins + would be explosive in my view, and definitely worth a look.

Tbh it's difficult to have a discussion about haaland without people seeing beyond the goals. I understand why but just put the goals aside for a second and you have a limited footballer. That's OK thats not his job he is there to score and he has players around him to help him score those goals. Imo delaps a town version of haaland. Potentially slightly better with a bit of his footwork (turn, spin and run), from his time playing on the flanks. But he's a proper 9. Have him in and around the box and he will bang goals in. We can't have him dropping deep as its not his game and that's here his similar to haaland but at a different stage of his career. He's going to become a top end striker no doubt. He won't be a kane. He will be a haaland. The key for us is to ensure we are getting the ball to him and through for him to do damage.

Not directly myself no. But o shea has been taking the heat because yes replaced wolfy yet Greaves has escaped criticism despite some very poor performances lately individually. As I have covered In regards to this tho, it may be he's missing wolfy. Maybe he's having to cover to much of Davis as Clarke isn't helping as much as Szmodics had done. Could be various things. But there's defo been a lot of direction towards oshea rather than greaves lately.
