Nearly a third assist just then, almost 6-0. With the obvious caveats that Azerbaijan are pretty poor and have given him too much space, he's looked sensational on the right wing tonight.

McKenna quite frequently talks about looking at the short, medium and long term of the club when making decisions. I think with Omari when (and I think it's a when not an if) he nails the right sided 10 role he'll be much better in that role than anyone else in the squad. I think that maybe goes into the medium (which I take to be looking a bit further than the next match) term bucket for McKenna and will be why he'll stick with Omari in as the right sided 10 rather than push him out to where Burns/Ogbene have been starting. The right sided 10 does also drift further right at times - Chappers used to do it a lot when he was starting in that role. I think for some matches for tactical reasons we might see Omari in the RW role but think he'll still spend most of the season in the R10 slot.

Yeah, also think in the Championship he had much more time and space on the wing, plus we were able to get the ball out to him much more regularly than we can at this level. There are pretty much zero teams that we’ll be able to have that sort of dominance against in the Prem. Also, one of the main criticisms people seem to have of Omari is that he’s not looking after the ball as well, which is largely down to how quickly he gets closer down, how many players are on him, how strong those players are etc. I don’t think all that suddenly changes just by him starting wider on the right. I’m not against seeing it at all but the signing of Ogbene indicates that McKenna sees different attributes required for that role in the Prem and is clearly trying to utilise them to get the most out of Davis on the other side. Also I think if we did put Omari on the right the necessity of having the fullback bomb forward to support him would leave us horrifically open imo. Still, reassuring in a way that even McKenna, who everyone regards as a genius, is not beyond the ‘if he just did this one simple thing it would solve everything’ type of criticism.

I doubt it. You have to be English to watch England play. Something like that anyway.
