I know there was bigger problems today but wtf was that about with Wardley. There’s one thing appreciating he’s good for the club but the announcer guy (and presumably the club) are taking it too far now.

For those who weren’t there I will set the scene. We’re 2-0 down and suddenly the announcer five minutes into half time gets on the mic with ‘now it’s time. HERE. WE. GO. Ohhhhh Fabio Wardleeeyyyy’ and then proceeded to conduct the crowd into singing Wardleys name. To which we then had him introduce Wardley as if it was a boxing match (weight etc) before he came out the tunnel with the belts. The interview was fine to be fair but the cringe fest was then continued with an attempted rendition of ‘he’s one of our own’ by the half time guy on the mic.

It can’t just be me that thinks this is way over the top. We’re 2-0 down at that point remember. Just screamed tinpot.

Poll: Would you take a draw tonight if offered right now?

its cringey, but whats the guy to do ? if he doesnt try to gee the crowd up, he'll get blamed for being boring and not creating an atmosphere.

I mean literally the worst thing he could have done at half time yesterday was mirror the crowds mood, because we'd have been totally flat 2nd half, instead just mildy flat.

and Ive no doubt he was told, gee the crowd up at half time, we need the crowd

maybe it would help if the speakers werent set at eardrum splitting levels every so often, it was crazy Wardleys interview was perfectly audible normal volume, the bits either side of it were like turned up to 20, which just increases the dislike of those bits.

Sorry but we’re 2-0 down in a big game and the bloke grabs the mic and goes ‘it’s time.. here we go’ as if the football was an appetiser and seeing Wardley in the flesh was what we’ve all actually gone for. To then do the Wardley chant on top. It was so cringe it almost felt like David Brent

Was the same chant that Fabio Wardley, himself, started when he was handed the microphone when we beat Huddersfield to secure promotion... When the fans were calling "Fabio, give us a song"

I'd be interested to know whether it's Fabio pushing this partnership, or the club...

Agreed.

As much as I respect the brilliant job Ashton has done, a lot of this stuff reeks of 'fan experience' discussions in boardrooms from commercial people.

This is not the NFL.

Rob C would have known what to say and it would have been delivered with wit and grace.

I do not believe It is about 1 side pushing it and I don’t know if you’re a boxing fan or not but Fabio Wardley is a rising star in heavyweight boxing. Ring Magazine ranked him in their top 10, 2 places behind Anthony Joshua.

Mark Ashton made clear from the office this isn’t just about Ipswich town football club it is about Ipswich and Suffolk and bringing the town together. Supporting and celebrating Fabios success clearly fills in to that and not to forget, his success also brings more eyes onto the football club.

It makes sense for all concerned.

That being said, I agree that his introduction was handled incredibly poorly yesterday.
