Sir Chris Hoy..sad news on 10:27 - Oct 20 with 952 views | OldFart71 | Sad news indeed for a truly star performer. I was diagnosed with prostate cancer hack in 2019. It was fortunate an alert doctor checked my prostate and sent me for a scan. I went on a watch and wait, where they check your PSA every three months. Then late 2022 it was decided due to raised PSA ( If it doubles, which it had, treatment is necessary) so I went on to hormone treatment which lowers your PSA as testosterone apparent accelerates the cancer. Then early 2023 I had five weeks of radiotherapy. My PSA is now below one and is checked every six months. I am lucky. Any problems with your waterworks don't hesitate to get checked out.

My PSA level was 7.2!!!. Had a scan and all ok. It was that high due to enlarged prostate. I'm on tamsulosin now for this and last check was 5.4. They test me every year.
Sir Chris Hoy..sad news on 15:01 - Oct 20 with 764 views | Whos_blue | It acts as a reminder that this terrible disease does not discriminate. No one is immune. As a bloke in their early 50s, I'd noticed things just weren't quite right with my water works. Slow flow, more than usual toilet breaks and annoying after flow! I'd had a PSA check a while ago and all good, but still wasn't happy so went to see the Dr. He offered me another PSA check then offered the "examination". I have to say that whilst a little undignified, it was over in seconds and confirmed there were no concerns. I only share this, as it's brought peace of mind and it might encourage others to take the plunge. And the finger.

Exactly the same symptoms as me. Specialist told me that 1 in 4 with a high PSA count will be because of cancer. I will say though that if symptoms deteriorate go back to the docs as a PSA reading is only a rough guide and not a diagnosis. [Post edited 20 Oct 2024 15:10]
