Played 8 games - four of those against top 5 teams - and we have 4 points on 18:48 - Oct 20 with 2697 views | Asa | It’s just time that is melting minds. The lack of games and the time it takes between them. Seen lots of talk about how poor we’ve looked. But we’ve had two poor games back to back. Before that we were superb in nearly beating Champions League Villa. But that feels like it was about 18 games ago based on the EFL seasons we are used to. The reality is we’ve had some tough games, got some key injuries, have been promoted from League One just 18 months ago and we still aren’t in the relegation zone. If we had four points but a win we’d have lost six matches out of eight and would be deemed far less competitive. Instead we’ve taken points from half our matches. The concern of course is how we look poor now compared with past performances but it’s basically two bad games. Not six. Not ten. Not twenty. Two. [Post edited 20 Oct 18:49]

Played 8 games - four of those against top 5 teams - and we have 4 points on 20:17 - Oct 20 with 2486 views | Hipsterectomy | We haven’t won a competitive match in what is likely to be 6 months (or more). Even Wimbledon away we stunk the place out with one of the worst Town performances I’ve seen in recent years. As another poster said on another thread, we’ve been in the lead for 20something minutes in total in the league this season. It’s not that we’re unlucky to lose, it’s that we’re nowhere close to a win, excluding you could say Villa, where it would have been deserved. Most games we’ve self imploded and the opposition begin to take pity on us and give up.

You can't do that at this level. We've scored 2 in 1 game so far. SO giving a goal away pretty much condemns us to not winning. Also, we've had winnable home games which we've gained 2 points from...... You can spin it however you like I suppose. I've not given up, but I've definitely lost that initial enthusiasm and reality is setting in.
Played 8 games - four of those against top 5 teams - and we have 4 points on 21:53 - Oct 20 with 2259 views | JammyDodgerrr | We've gone from two years of basically not ever losing to getting punished on every mistake we make, plus lost some fan favorites and we seem to have a game once a month rather than every two days - a lot of people can't cope with this shift and won't ever. It's the reality that if we are we going to stay up, we probably will only win 8-10 games all season and that will be it. That will be a hard adjustment. If we do stay up, you'd expect next year to look different, but only a gradual improvement. Bournemouth had their record ever points tally last year and only won 13 games. 13! This league is crazy and the standard is so high, even for the "weaker" teams, but football is tribal and it sucks when you lose - especially when you come from a couple of years of consistently winning.

Also You build a lot of love for players who have given everything each week for two seasons. Some maybe just 1 but they busted a gut and got us back to back promotions. There isn't just players needing to get used to the way we play but that big link between the team and the fans has been reset to many. Not all but many. KM gets patience as he has alot of credit in the bank and rightfully so and he is a continued presence. But if you're not winning and half or more of the squad are now players then the amount of credit they have is naturally a lot less. Things take time. But player fan relationships are one if things too and things like clarke not helping Davis or Muric holding onto the ball when we are 0-2 down isn't something town folk Will be accepting of as those before them have shown desire, determination and ran towards adversity to achieve what they did.

If we are generalising, everyone knew how difficult staying in the league would be. Everyone shouldn’t therefore be surprised when we lose games, relegation looks horrible on paper and position 17 looks hardly any different for the WDL column. It’s never a surprise at the reaction to loss and losses. : First we get the few expressed ‘worries’ : Next we get the a player or two who ‘isn’t at the level’ : Next we get the beginnings of a ‘scapegoat’ for a sub performance or mistake : Next we get the questioning of why we ever paid money for such and such player : Next we get multiple threads on everyone and their dogs preferred line up even though the coaching team work with the players each day and even some of said players are injured : Next we get so and so shouldn’t be at the club or whomever looks disinterested : Next we get the muttering of manager and the coaches aren’t up to things tactically : Next we get time for 90 minutes of 442 as this will solve everything So there we have it, the ITFC fan playbook, its rinse and repeat at the sign of any adversity. I’ve seen most of it over the last two weeks. It’s not fun preparing for probable loss it’s not fun reading the negativity. Imagine how the team feels, if they lose the fans this early, it’s a long way to May folks. Even if the signs now are this will be too much, as fans let’s not capitulate at the first signs the season is going to be a difficult as we knew it would be. PR was quiet on Saturday, other than that very little to report.

Win on sat. Draw or lose but perform and whilst you may bemoan a non win if it doesn't happen at least let's have something positive to discuss about the performance. That for me is the key problem. Yes, we’ve played some of the elite, play well, but lost/drew We’ve also faced some mid range teams, and been very poor, and been comfortably beaten. And played Southampton - and looked some way off being in control, and playing our football. And the two promotions, does that need saying after every loss? [Post edited 21 Oct 8:17]

Our fans can find a million reasons what's wrong when we lose, when in reality nothing has changed, apart from confidence maybe. Strip it all back there is nothing wrong with what we are doing, put a championship team in place of Everton Saturday and we would probably be saying a great performance and result. bottom line is, we simply aren't good enough consistently to get the results needed in the premier league, same as the clubs who come up last year, same as the clubs who will go up this year! Its a poisoned challis!

A great point well made. The bond between the group that achieved back to back promotions and the fans was unlike anything I’d experienced in all the time I’ve supported us. It was never going to be possible to bring in so many players and maintain it. Even in the joy of the moment of winning promotion against Huddersfield there was a tinge of sadness that a very special, exciting, enjoyable chapter in our history was closing. I don’t think it’s possible to have that bond between players and fans at any premier league club. In fact even if we stay up, improve and win a cup in a couple of years time it won’t match the togetherness throughout all elements of the club that we felt from 2021-2024. [Post edited 21 Oct 11:14]

It was always going to be like this especially in the early part of the season. If we can somehow get to 18 ish points by the beginning of January we will be right in the mix of staying up. It helps that it seems like wolves and Southampton intend to be the worst Premier League teams of all time so we might only be competing for one relegation spot. McKenna will be off next season anyway one way or another. Try to enjoy the ride and see it as the end of this little era.

Nothing positive? What about Muric's performance? Lambasted by many here, yet pulled off some great saves and is growing in confidence. I'd say that was very positive.

Thought he done make some good saves but some of his handling, was very, very suspect. I can’t recall him taking a ball cleanly from shots on Saturday. Hope he comes good but I’ve not been impressed so far.

He managed to pass the ball, intended to go ahead of him, out for a corner in the second half. He made some good saves, but we need more from a keeper in terms of how we play… and he doesn’t seem to have the confidence of some players to use him in that way.

The good thing about giving away easy goals is that its a lot more preventable than being completely outplayed every week because you're totally inferior to the opposition.

I don't think blaming our fans works at this level. MOTD said we were useless and created nothing. They said our midfield didn't lay a glove on Everton at home. This will hurt the players and management 100 times more than a few tactical points on a forum. Truth is we've been really poor last two games. Needs to improve massively. [Post edited 21 Oct 13:41]

I take your point but it makes football easier to watch and read through much of the post game comments from the new media people when supporters support, coaches coach and players play. Countless threads on how to solve or who should be dropped isn’t great reading. It’s probably the way TWTD organises its threads rather than the threads themselves, if only you could read the fact based and balanced posts!
