But Burns, Clarke, Muric just aren’t good enough.

I think Burns works in certain kinds of games, but this wasn't one of them. It felt like there was a swing towards them after Ogbene went off.

Clarke I'll give time to, it was his full Premier League debut after a long time out. Was it awful for him? Yes. I can see why we wanted him out there. We were so flat last week, and O'Shea does not provide much going forward at RB.

I don't see how Muric is an upgrade on either Hladky or Walton.

It’s an unpopular opinion but I wasn’t convinced about Clarke in League 1 to be perfectly honest, less so in the championship and I’m sure as hell not at this level. He does some bits well but he’s chaotic and positionally out of step far too often for my liking. It’s chalk & cheese between him and Axel, but in the absence of him it’s a case of needs must I guess.

Burns has his strengths but didn’t look fit today. Baring in mind he came on after 30 minutes he looked done after 75. Clearly an enforced change earlier than we would’ve hoped but I question why he’s seemingly only good for 40 minutes.

Muric’s a frustrating one. Does a lot well, shot stopper, very strong commanding his box aerially but almost every week seems to have a rick in him, which have been ruthlessly punished a few times now.

Burns did fine & I've struggled to see how Ogbene, who cost £8m, is much of an upgrade. However, his injury looked bad so doubt we will be seeing him for quite a while. The switch had no impact on the game - Brentford simply gained momentum after their first goal.
I don't think Harry Clarke is good enough for this level, but he's only a squad player who is starting as a result of our injury list.
Muric is diabolical. Awful decision maker & this is affecting the whole defence. I can't believe we paid £8-10m for him.

Clarke, to me, is one of the downsides of our meteoric rise from L1 to the Premier League.

An extra season or two in the Championship would have allowed us the opportunity to bring in incremental upgrades to the squad, replacing the L1/Champ players with a core of Champ/PL players that could then be further improved upon with the money we've spent this summer, resulting in a team of PL and Champ/PL players.

We've been hamstrung in a way by our shocking success, meaning that we've still got a number of L1/Champ players sitting in the wings, having to be used as backup in situations such as this.

You ain't a beauty but, hey, you're alright.

We do have two players ahead of him at right back - Tuanzebe and Johnson. It's just typical both are injured.

Maybe this is me being delusional, but I think we'd have picked up points across the last three games if Tuanzebe hadn't had that accident.

I'm inclined to agree with you.

So much of the grief in the last three games came from the RB position, and I saw nothing in the first batch of games to suggest that Tuanzebe would have been anything but solid and intelligent.

It was interesting that after Clarke had been with us for just half a season, KM signed 2 upgrades for his position, Williams on loan and Tuanzebe.

I had the same thought. I massively rate Tuanzebe.

I know that was then, but it could be again..

One of those real sliding doors moments, Williams' issues.

Given what we saw of him when he was in a good place, and the fact that he was out of contract this summer, I can't help but think that he was signed with a view to this season, as long as he could keep himself on the straight and narrow.

A demon-free Williams competing with Tuanzebe for the RB position would have been quite the pair of options.

maybe 3 with o'shea, wonder if woolf was one of those not fit to start? tuanzebe is (generally) way more composed, and could've got us at least an extra point or two

Clarke simply cannot defend, his position is too far in, hence why he has to make fouls hence why he got sent off for doing same thing in quick succession. Muric is a mistake waiting to happen but capable of some great saves. Burns has earnt the right in my view but in reality too slow and not physical enough for this league. That said only Delap has shown he is premier league quality so far for me and possibly Szmodics though he's had limited game time.

This season will be worse than going down with Lambert in terms of wins and points tally. The win was there for the taking today and we let it get 2-2, then 3-2 then blow it again at 3-3.

It's difficult to see where we are going to win a game as we just gift goal after goal right across the team.
