I think we spent a lot on potential that may work out in a year or two. Prob all we could do at this moment in time but a few more Prem hardened players would have helped. Recruitment was maybe a bit naive but we're two years into having an actual professional transfer/scouting team

We haven't wasted 100m.

Muric and O'Shea yes probably money wasted.

The rest (that we paid fees for) I think will all be good signings.

Poll: Assume we have the money for one more big signing. Where do you spend it?

You wouldn't have bought Hutchinson then ? Or Greaves ?

Don't fall for the Norwich trolls, we spent money we had to, to try to compete, instead of being a yoyo club

Nope.

For all the talk, the recruitment just simply has not been good enough.

Delap and Szm aside, the rest can leave.

No..stupid post. That was what we needed to spend to be even close to competitive, what it really shows is how tough this league is.

Add Greaves to that list. Think he has a lot of promise from what we've seen. The game seemed to swing on Ogbene going off I think he provides something to the line up.
Hutchinson... I'm glad we signed him but £20m does seem slightly excessive.
I don't think we could get anyone better than Townsend to sit behind Davis.

Delap is worth £50m minimum surely. Hutchinson is class and Greaves will come good.

I think we are about square in resale value.

Muric looks very questionable. I don't rate Jack Clarke. £15m+ for him feels like burglary

I think we've bought too many from the Championship. The gap between Premier League and Championship is clear. I'm aware we're not in the market for established Premier League players, but there are so many players in European Leagues who would be good enough and would want to play in the Premier League but other than Cajuste, we don't seem to have any reach there.

McKenna has real belief in his coaching. We'll get better but will it be too late?

Really? Greaves, Delap, Szmodic and Hutchinson are delivering, O’Shea and Clarke need more time. I don’t know what people were expecting this season exactly.

I think the rise outgrew our scouting system. We're not in a position to do a Brighton and sniff out bargains in Eastern Europe or South America yet, which would be the way to do it.

Fair point, but was expecting more than one loanee.

Emotions will be high right now and who can blame us. It’s been a really tough start for us and we would have hoped to of secured a win by now. The team will be equally gutted about the result today, we just need to keep supporting them

In addition to Muric and O’Shea I’d add Ogbene and Ben Johnson to that sorry list (Johnson was on a free but we’ll still be paying his wages). And O’Shea might come good yet.

The rest will be fine. Delap, Hutchinson, Greaves in particular will have great careers and Clarke is a prospect. Szmodics? His age says here and now. He’s a good player. Cajuste? Not seen enough of him but what I have seen tells me he is decent.

So no, not wasted £100m and not every signing will work out.

Our signings do feel a bit Hurstian in the main - buy a lot of players who have shown something at a lower level and hope they can make the step up. Those who have Premier League experience either had been horribly out of form or were relegated last season, so had hardly managed to make the step up.

Bit of a mixed bag but Hutchinson & Delap are great buys, both still really young and will only keep improving. Greaves too, not quite as young but he’s shown a lot of promise and is a big miss at the moment. None were available to start today which clearly is a loss. Clarke has potential and can carry the ball, clearly a good player in there.

Across those 4 we’ve probably still got £100m of value in this silly market so in that respect I don’t agree with your thread title at all.

I'm not sure any of those 4 have added much value over their purchase price.

Wasted £100m no, that’s a sensationalist approach.

However, I do believe some of our recruitment is off the mark, and this level has showed you can’t get that much wrong, and that includes recruitment.
