This to me was the biggest issue. I don't think I've ever called any officials corrupt before, but there was absolutely no excuse, zero, for not at least checking with VAR at that point.
It's not as if it was a 'heat of the moment' decision during play. It was a deliberate decision to *not* do the obvious thing that 99.9% of refs would have done in the circumstances, at that time when play was paused. |  |

If the ref missed it (always a possibility, but would have to be blind), the VAR are there as a backup to tell him to a) award the penalty, or b) if they are unsure themselves, they can ask the ref to review it himself on screen. The fact that 6 officials (ref, assistants, 4th official and 2 VAR's) saw nothing that even merited a review, is frankly baffling to the point of being suspicious... |  |

I have watched the replay of the foul on Chappers umpteen times now and I cannot see why a pen was not given, not even a review ffs. The club should take this up with the PGMOL. | | | |

Chappers' little touch away is what seals it for me. He's in control of the ball and gets chest smashed to the floor at a defender moving at pace. It's a foul as Chappers is in control of the ball and gets completely smashed. I'm genuinely flabbergasted why there wasn't even at least a check.
