Penalty or no Penalty ? 11:28 - Nov 3 with 1452 views | eddiespearitt03 | Can not understand what went on ? I thought V.A.R. was installed for crucial decisions . Is there a reason why a second opinion was not given. ? Does anyone feels the referee thought Chaplin collapsed too dramatically ? Will we ever know ? Trying to guage what the referee immediately thought. Or was his view of it blocked ? Was he not looking in that direction ?

The linesman on that side did not make any decisions all game, he just waited for the ref every time, even when play was right in front of him. Obviously the ref did not trust him to make a decision.

I think the linesmen are just there to hold a flag thesedays, I cant remember if it was a foul or a throw in decision that went against us, but it happened literally in front of one of the linesmen. should have been the easiest decision to make all game, and he just stood there, didnt react till the ref who was over half a pitch away made the (wrong) decision, and then the flag went up to back up the refs choice. and you re just how did you not see it well enough to make your own decision instantly and probably correctly on that, why is the ref making your decision for you.? as I say theyre just holding a flag now, so no the linesman wouldnt have dared make a decision and wave their flag, if the ref wasnt going to.
Penalty or no Penalty ? on 12:21 - Nov 3 with 1195 views | patrickswell | The referee’s call, as mentioned by Micah Richards yesterday seems only to be over-ruled when it’s on a decision that harms us, whether it’s getting an onfield referee to give a penalty against us, which they previously haven’t, or for what I’m fairly sure is the only occasion so far this season, to rescind the award of a penalty given to us. However, when it’s a decision which could potentially benefit us - say like yesterday or the Davis penalty shout at the Etihad - the officials apply referee’s call. The inconsistency of it is enraging, and McKenna would be well within his rights to come out and publicly say that he has no faith in the competency of the system at all. It also feels as though the decisions we’re not getting seem to be filed under: 1) a tangle of legs 2) a coming together Whereas the ones given to the opposition are categorised as: 1) a deliberate trip 2) persistent fouling into the box. The ref will tell the Assistants before the game whether they want them to 'go big' and wave the flag or not with decisions. Some do, some don't. It's clear what yesterday's ref wanted them to do. If not, they're constantly talking throughout the game so there is no way there wasn't a discussion about that incident - which the VAR team will have been listening in to. There are more comms than ever on the pitch these days. With the mic's in place, there is no need for linos to 'make decisions'. [Post edited 3 Nov 2024 13:21]
