We owe Burns and all the League one/Champ squad... 21:35 - Dec 4 with 3345 viewsjasondozzell

...a hell of a lot. The least we can do give them our unequivocal support.

I'd rather get relegated with Burns, Chappers, Burg, Broady, Hirst, Mass etc giving it a go than stay up with a load of journeymen/loan signings or experienced prem players who don't mean anything to us.

Seeing Broady last night just underlined that we mustn't forget what got us here.

We needed quality and better players like Cajuste, Phillips, Delap, O'Shea etc.

But heart and the verve of the promotion teams still there. I hope KMac uses them well over this period.

Would like to see Mass get some more minutes. And Ali looked good yesterday. What a moment if he could get a goal.

I just have this feeling Broady is going to get us going again over next few games. He's always looked hungry but looks bang up for it after being out of the team for so long.

Good point on Mass. What's the deal with him? He's obviously behind Taylor in the pecking order now.

The one that has surprised me is Wolfie.

Really don't feel like he's done enough wrong to not be making the team. Maybe the Everton game but then everyone sucked in that one.

Looks like Taylor is the preferred sub especially if chasing the game. But he did really well against Liverpool I thought.

The thing to remember is a lot of these lot were written off by some before the championship season. Don't be surprised if they defy the odds again and make a contribution.

Yep. Agree with comments on Mass and Woolfie. Woolfie looked absolutely fine at the start of the season.

Hard to pick him ahead of O'Shea though, who I thought was excellent again last night. I've also been impressed with Taylor, albeit in cameos.

Agree. Felt really sorry for him when he got dropped. He's played RB before - I wouldn't be totally adverse to seeing him there although maybe not got the pace.

Never let us down.

I suppose what I'm trying to say is I hope KM gives them all a crack of the whip when he feels it's the right time. I'm sure he will. And I hope we go down with the fight to the death attitude those two special teams had (have!)

He is better on the ball than O Shea and not put a foot wrong so far.

However, its the prem. KM is stat driven and O shea is quicker and seems to win more in the air.

If we can get Greaves on the same readiness as oshea what a pair we have. We haven't as yet seen both together as a fully complimentary partnership as greaves form dipped when oshea came in

I have a view on this which is no doubt going to be unpopular.

We don't owe the majority of players anything, in my mind they are doing a dream job and getting very well paid for it. I actually think they have earned the reward they wanted, which is a part in a Premier League team, but that is down to a combination of timing, luck, coaching and club structure - you could argue that they owe the club/McK and Ashton more than we owe them for the way the team was formed, coached and players developed.

I get that we have a significant amount of emotional ties to this squad because of the success that has been achieved and memories, but the step up to the Prem and the ability required is far greater now than it was in 2000 or 1992 and sadly I don't think the majority of the promotion squad are good enough to perform consistently at this level.

Like I said, I expect to be shot down in flames for my opinion which is fine, but my support is for the club, and has been since I first stood in the ground in '79, and want what is best for the club to succeed and grow.

The squad over the last 3 years has built a new foundation for the club to grow and progress on, we can't risk some over-emotional loyalty undermine it.

Anybody who does not give their unwavering support to this club, manager & players during this season in the Premier League I may remind you, is no real supporter of Ipswich Town.

What has been achieved over the past two years by this club is extremely rare in football, anywhere in the world, let alone to our club.

We are so far ahead in our long term project, that we should enjoy every single week we are in the Premier League this time around, and enjoy the financial rewards of being here.

Almost agree with that but I think we have to give player development a bit more emphasis.

For two reasons; as you and others have pointed out, the Premier League is a big step up and some of the third tier squad cannot make it. Some have already moved on and others will either retire from the playing staff or find new clubs (with the kudos of being part of a top flight squad to add to their marketability.)

More importantly, the step up takes time for adjustment and different players will cope with this in different ways and in different time frames. Burns and Al~Hamadi being the most obvious examples to my mind as needing longer, Davis and Morsy being the ones who have slotted into the game almost seamlessly from the off. Broadhead is going to be interesting, will he just get better and better ? WIll Woolfenden and Burgess either make O'Shea and Greaves play out of their skins to retain their places or will we see them take the usual starting line up places ? And then there are Hirst, Harry Clarke and Chaplin...

Never understood the point of criticising a player doing his best, putting the effort in, working hard etc. If you consider that's not good enough then criticise the person that picked him for the team.

Unbelievable. You would rather see us go down than stay up? Yet Forest did exactly what you state and look where they are now. This is a club, a business that people’s futures and a lot of investment depends on, which goes way beyond you preferring to see us with load of players to whom you have a certain sentimental attachment.

It is a little nerving how many people assume that we can just go down as we'll be stronger and can come back up.

Whilst some have, there are many that haven't.

IF Brum get promoted, which is most likely, and also wrexham which again is most likely, there's going to be two big payers out there for squad building for the champ, let alone who joins us back down in the champ and who ever doesn't go up this season.

I'd rather us do absoutely everything we can to stay up and if that means selling in jan to be able to bring in 4/5 quality signings who can do that, then we have to imo. There's to much risk in just going down. As it's an unknown on first who our manager would be in the champ anway, and what players have relegation release clauses etc too.

The same can be said of the manager. There's a lot of emotional attachment to him too. Is he good enough to manage in the top tier? Time will tell. Plenty of managers with success in the FL have failed when given a job in the PL.
