They already have neighbours armed with rockets,do they really need another bunch of fanatics to their north armed with Mig29s,vast ammo stocks and missile boats? That’s what’s been taken out. Hopefully these new neighbours might be too busy sorting themselves out but I wouldn’t hold your breath!

The Americans are backing the Kurdish Syrian Democratic forces and I believe have 900 troops based in Kurdish-controlled areas, so I imagine they will only let Turkey go so far.
What it does suggest to me is that if an effective government based in Damascus does emerge, it will have no remit in Turkish-backed, Israeli-controlled or Kurdish-controlled areas. [Post edited 11 Dec 2024 12:20]

I can understand some logic in taking out military strength in a nation potentially on the verge of chaos. Though it is absolutely at odds with the approach the west is trying to take of encouraging the rebels to be moderate and cooperative.
The land grab, however, is a disgrace. And fits the MO. Golan is already occupied territory they annexed. 'Settling' in the west bank continues apace. And they wonder why their neighbours are so prickly... which was what the thread was actually about, regardless of attempts to deflect snd talk about turkey. | | | |
