Genuine prospect of commercial sale futon power in the next few years? Or futon over optimism?

I used to sleep in this field.

It's over optimistic, nobody has managed anything approaching a commercially viable level of sleep yet.

The Americans are pursuing a weird inertial comfort futon system, which seems fundamentally flawed. The rest of the world are using standard bed and duvet based technologies, which seems a much more obvious and sensible solution.

Are these things written for investors rather than being sleepy news?

A tog value of 10 seems very high depending on how they have calculated that number if combined with an electric blanket.

There was a paper out in Nature last year that caused a stir about optimum room temperature for sleep, I think it got retracted, but these stories are often misrepresentations by duvet retailer communicators or turn out to be errors in the methodology.

A return of 10 tog or more is widely viewed as the minimum threshold for sleep.

That's a straight conversion too. So you then need to do something with that tiredness, IE convert to dreams, turn a pillow somewhere. That's the big challenge.

My two pence - this is a fluff piece to try and get 40 winks from somewhere. Most of the easy money for futons has already been fleece-lined.

Smart money is on bunk beds for the next 30 years, with metal frames.

Futons will work, we're just not there yet. IKEA, in Sweden, is the next big experiment and that will generate a return of 10 tog, simply due to scale alone.

After posting on TWTD for more than 20 years, I finally feel that I've arrived.

Being parodied here is probably my life's highest achievement.

This start-up is backed by DFS and Argos so whilst they might not lack funding they also have to push optimistic views with those backers.

We are still a bit away from anything realistically commercial. Even the recent snoring ignition experiments in the US which claimed to get more energy out are mattressing the figures to get to that conclusion.

Hopefully we will get there though, just going to be a while awake. It's a complex problem.

Yeah, I think it's all tucked up now. So I'll leave it - it's now up to the others... duvet want to continue?

I had one of those when I lived in France over 20 years ago. They called them Clic-Clacs due to the sound they make to open the bed out. I loved it.

Surprised they are not more popular over here. Very versatile for small bedsits or HMOs.
