Not wanting to invite a pile-on but 22:38 - Dec 27 with 2958 viewsFromReuserWithLove

I genuinely believe that Nathan Broadhead is a far superior footballer than Sam Szmodics.

Better footballer in classical terms I agree. Always more effective less sure

Szmodics had a freak season last year but outside of that I'm not sure he's been more effective. Broady can produce that bit of magic we're lacking.

Sami works so so hard and his defensive work is outstanding.

I think Broadhead deserves more game time. Each time he has come on he looks a real threat.

Not similar players.

SS puts 5 times the effort in, especially defending.

A bit harsh on Szmodics. He's had to work very hard throughout the game and Broadhead comes on when we start to be a little bit more attacking, and is fresher at that point too.

Having said that, Broadhead has looked good in his cameos but we'll only see what he's like if he starts which I think he deserves, as none of the players in those areas have really shone to keep their place.

Does McKenna see Broadhead as more of a player who comes on? IDK

Yeah, don't get why people miss this out about Broadhead - he can be a lovely player to watch when on song but he's a lightweight and can be pretty loose with the ball at times, neither of which are much good to us in this league.

Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand.

They are different types of player and I like both of them.

Broadhead has quick feet and a quick footballing brain. He can score all types of goals and gets Ito places opposition players don’t like.

Szmodics is different. More direct, more of a battler and good at pressing the opposition. He knows where the goal is and opposition defenders do not have an easy day when he plays. He’s quite robust too.

I’m disappointed NB hasn’t played more. Somebody sitting behind me told me he’d had a big falling out with McKenna. Has he? How did he know? He heard it through somebody he knew. Ok, right. Taking the word of a fellow sufferer in the crowd is a bit pointless. Who knows the truth?

Sammie could have been a hero tonight, but blew it. Marcus Stewart in his prime would have buried those chances and we come away with two goals and possibly three points. Where do we get another Marcus from in January lol?

I’m not sure about Broady. I think he’s another one who gets better the longer he’s out. He struggled to impose himself in the Championship at times.

Touch, control and ability on ball Broadhead is better.

Tenacious, graft, ability to force his way into goals oring positions Sammie probably has the edge.

In summary very different players. Always easier to catch eye coming in as well. SS sacrificed himself and flogged himself for team tonight. Broady doesn't have that engine. But he was class when he came on. He can play this level!

He’s got a nice touch hasn’t he? I wasn’t sure he’d have enough pace for the PL as he often looks out of games when he gets a run out for Wales. But from what we’ve seen so far, he offers something different for us. He’s a good option if we’re looking to get our foot on the ball and take more control, as he’s got a knack of finding an extra yard of space and is unflustered in possession. But then I couldn’t see him getting in those positions Szmodics did last night. Very different types of players.

Problem is SS is still being played in his less favoured position out wide instead of a 10. All McK needs to do is watch where his goals last season for Blackburn came from

Szmodics runs his socks off and has scored important goals. If anything, Broady is seen as playing slightly more central than we play Szmodics.

Why the pile on SS the better goalscorer/grifter but NB a much better all round player.

He does play a 10 really - we often play with two 10s. It's just against level of opposition we are facing he has a job to do out of possession which is stopping the threat out wide. Thankless task and requires so much work. Broady would try but he would be flagging a lot sooner than Sammie. Broady looks the part technically in this league. He looks hungry as well. Wouldn't mind seeing him start against Chelsea.

I think Szmodics is doing a lot of hard work off the ball and is a goalscorer and in fairness to him, we aren't playing him in his best position either so we are probably judging him a bit unfairly

We could get more out of Szmodics

I don't understand why Clarke has been getting the nod over Broadhead either frankly, we really need to see more of him

I don't know his fitness situation or off field persona, obviously McKenna sees that every day

He does seem a weird omission this season, my concern is we might be using him as a makeweight for someone like Lath in January and so we are keeping him injury free

Alcohol is the answer but I can't remember the question!

Really weird to single out Szmodics when Clarke and Burns are more likely candidates to move down the pecking order this season.

I’m not sure broady is the answer people think he is based on a few cameos whilst we are short. He was fantastic for us at a lower level but very inconsistent. At prem level that window to be inconsistent is much narrower, especially for a team at the bottom.

I suspect the decision to move him on in January will only be reversed if we fail to land targets.
