TEAM on 18:49 - Dec 30 with 1778 views | Swansea_Blue | Going back to our roots a bit here, bar Chappers. I wonder if that’s the thinking or we’re just managing fitness and game time, maybe with some illness still knocking around?

That one surprised me for the Arsenal game. Not so much tonight after Woolfenden had a(nother) decent game.

TEAM on 18:33 - Dec 30 by NedPlimpton | Some huge decisions. You'd think Muric may not be 100%, otherwise it seems bizarre to drop him after a decent game against arsenal |
Slicker injured and Muric ill apparently

TEAM on 18:48 - Dec 30 by Marshalls_Mullet | Must admit, I like the selection. Not sure about not playing Muric and Burgess, but I'm sure KM has his reasons. If fit, I would have kept KP in over Morsy. |
I wasn't being entirely serious . Johnson and Phillips obviously not up to two games in three days and Broadhead has been very promising when coming on so deserves his start. I would have still started both and brought them off when they tired though.

TEAM on 18:47 - Dec 30 by Swansea_Blue | He’s cup tied. Def info. Er, I’ve no idea why. Maybe ill? There’s no reason to drop him. He was solid v Arsenal. |
Maybe Muric is just mentally done in. Been a tough few weeks, so KM has decided to take the chance to “rest” him. Didn’t Sereni ask to get rested over Christmas back in the relegation season?!!

We’ve trebled the number of players who were with us in League One in the starting lineup. Was just two on Friday (Davis and Woolfenden); six tonight (Walton, Burns, Morsy and Broadhead joining them).

If Muric has the sh1ts then he now knows how I feel every time he passes out from the back.

Not 100% convinced KP couldn't start, but he we assume that's the case. I think Morsy was always going to be picked.

He’s been a bit up and down hasn’t he? I think a really comfortable footballing sweeper keeper is key to how we want to play, so I was slightly surprised we went for him. He is a bloody great shot stopper though and very assured with crosses and set pieces. Swings and roundabouts and all that.

TEAM on 19:03 - Dec 30 with 1500 views | DavoIPB | Muric unwell. Philips not fit enough for the two games so close together otherwise should have been those two in. Hopefully not too many shots today from Chelsea otherwise could be embarrassing.

TEAM on 18:32 - Dec 30 by acj | Wow, didn’t see Walton coming in off the back of the Arsenal game. So happy to see Broady get a chance from the start, hope he makes that place his! |
Yes Broady has definitely earned his spot. Will be interesting to hear the explanation re Muric/Walton. Shall reserve any judgment until we hear something definitive.

Don’t like that at all. If he concedes a hatful when we are playing Chelsea it’s not his fault, likewise if we get anything from the game it’s not proof of anything as presumably he won’t have scored. I’m hoping this is down to him performing well enough in training and nothing else. The fact some people have got him down as Neur, Kahn and Levin combined isn’t helpful either. Presumably we will at least go long tonight

His stats are really very good. And most of the so called errors are highly questionable.
TEAM on 19:28 - Dec 30 with 1185 views | Ryorry | Not surprised about Nathan, he’s been knocking on the door. Re Walton, wonder if KM’s had one to one, off the record convos and been told by several players that they’re nervous with Muric between the sticks. Anyway, whatever the result, if through choice and not forced, well done KM, brave of him. [Post edited 30 Dec 2024 19:31]

Sereni was very different. It was his first year in the UK and didn't realise you don't have time off a Christmas to spend time with the family, so asked to be able to go back to Italy for a week

It was for the FA Cup game. He asked to be rested as it is obviously less important. Would be fine now I suspect. Marshall came in and did okay so that was that. Unfortunately Marshall's kicking was atrocious and his keeping shaky.

It seemed strange to agree to rest him but then drop him afterwards as if it was a punishment for asking.

If Marshall does well, it would be wrong to swap back. That, perhaps, is the cultural point Sereni missed.

Possibly was the culture then but isn't now. If I recall, Sereni said he would never have asked to be rested if he had realised he would then not get his place back. Generally, if the first choice keeper misses a match for some reason and the reserve keeper comes in and plays well, you still expect the first choice to return when available for the next match.
