Only mildly annoying in that I wouldn't be able to boost my points over a threshold (thus giving me a fighting chance of maybe seeing a Prem away game this season). But it might ensure that availability continues a bit further down the levels for me and others. It's a pretty much unsolveable problem when matches are so oversubscribed.

Absolutely, a chance for some to take their kids too hopefully. Might also be a recognition from the club of the arms race nature of the points system.

Given that Wimbledon was sold out the number of empty seats was ridiculous. Although the experiences of the Reading the previous year should have provided an indication of what would happen. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

The fairest thing to do would be to punish those that abuse it and continue to reward those that don't. Many of the super fans won't go to this, but us second class citizen's who will try and get a ticket to this one won't get any nearer towards seeing us in the league.

Be realistic, it’s very hard to punish someone for not going to a game. There’s a whole host of legitimate reasons, the club isn’t going to start asking for doctors notes. Prevention is better than cure. Disincentivise people from doing it in the first place and get a full away end of town fans cheering us on to the next round.

Isn't it easy though? Rather than drop the away point earning altogether, make so that the point is earned by attending not just purchasing.

Okay punish is too strong. But it's really not hard to just not reward them with the point? Although if you scrapped the points system completely we'd still have a full away end, so maybe that's the answer

I could buy one, give it away, get the point. So wouldn’t help that situation.

Theoretically easy, but relies presumably on the club getting the data from the home team as to which ticket has or hasn’t been scanned in, not even sure they would be able to routinely get that. Also incentives people to buy a ticket and sell it on to a random, rather than them being distributed more fairly to begin with. Presumably also something / admin needed on the database to reverse out anyone’s points if their ticket hasn’t been used. I can see a whole load of complaints for legitimate reasons why people didn’t attend.

I don’t think we should bring back the death penalty, but if you’re advertising it on social media, or they did a few random checks at Coventry and that you could reduce it massively too. A lifetime ban for you andyour next five generations of kids seems fair to me.

No, but at least the seat is then filled and (hopefully) by a supporter. Still avoids swaths of empty seats, but allows people who attend away cup games to still earn.

In today's connected world, with electronic turnstiles and scanned tickets, that 'data' must easily be available. Regarding points credit, the process would be : nothing gets credited at time of purchase, only once the ticket consumption data from matchday is received. It should be possible to fully automate this. I cannot believe that in this day and age that this level of data isn't already by logged / collected, so all you're adding (for cup matches) is the clubs exchanging a data file.
