Bringing in a keeper is the right thing to do 12:21 - Feb 3 with 4675 viewstextbackup

But we have a situation now where Muric knows he’s probably done here, Slicker thinking he doesn’t have a hope, and Walton still neither the number 1 or number 2.

Can’t help but think this could have been dealt with far better.

Disagree to some extent. After being dropped in League One - Hladky probably thought he was done here.

Funny how things can change quickly!

I don't think we need to worry about Slicker too much - no keeper will start playing at this level without having a loan in lower leagues first and he needs that desperately (maybe Bristol Rovers when WBA recall Griffiths).

I think Muric, if he has anything about him, will know he's not been at the level he or us expect. So,l hardly surprising that, given we want to try and stay up, we are acting. Hopefully it'll spur him on to sort himself out. There's a quality keeper there, IMHO, but right now - nowhere near what we need.

Slicker - disagree entirely, he's young and we are in a dogfight, utterly understandable that he won't be thrown in right now.

The one position you want a bit of stability in ffs.

Turned into a bit of a mess now and it could cost us.

Difficult to right anybody off completely. The Donacien story can always be a reference point.

But we needed a keeper, neither have been reliable enough, and that’s really what you want from you goalkeeper.

You could make a valid argument with a reliable keeper we would having breathing space from the relegation zone right now.

Highlights the importance of a good number 1.

Maybe, on slicker, he might feel a little frustrated tho.

Slicker must know, and realise, he needs some experience before he gets thrown in at the deep end. Walton will know he will always have a fight on his hands to get into the team - any PL or Championship team will have 2 keepers in competition.

Even if Muric is done, all 3 must know with Walton out, we need to bring someone in.

Such a shame we opted for Muric in the summer as opposed to grabbing ourselves a GK of quality who, injuries aside, could cement themselves as our number 1.

I really don't think so. He's got next to no experience at any level, let along a dogfight.

His position at the Club hasn't changed as a result of our GK issue, his position was clear at the start of the season.

I was going to say exactly the same. Most people seem to have forgotten that Hladky was awful when we signed him. He was a complete mess and his confidence was gone. He was a completely different player when he returned in the Championship.

It's not necessarily the end for Muric, he just needs to get his head down, do the hard years in training, get his head in the right place and then grab his chance when it v comes again.

Unfortunately it already has cost us. So perhaps at least the club are being proactive about limiting any further damage thus giving us a better chance of getting more points to at least give us a fighting chance. I for one am glad the club are acknowledging the reality of the situation rather than being passive and just accepting we are going down with a whimper.

Slicker to go out on loan do we think, with Muric as number 2 until Walton is fit?

Ok, fair enough.

Still, original point stands - the GK situation has been a bit of a mess for us this season, annoyingly.

Certainly Muric hasn't worked out, for sure.

Walton's injury has made it a lot worse. If he wasn't injured, we'd be staying with the three for the season.

No I think Ashton being an ex goalkeeper will definitely put himself forward and agree to be the back up goalkeeper until Walton is fit.

I hope that's the case. Slicker really needs some experience to push on to the next level for us.

I don't think Slicker will be concerned at all. Walton (when fit) and Palmer will battle out for seemingly number 1. Don't know a lot about Palmer, but Walton would still be my first choice currently.

The only concern would be for Muric as he will no doubt be aware that he's probably third choice now.

But most Premier League clubs have three established goalkeepers and a younger one, as we have Slicker.

think he's done here whatever. The crowd reaction to him is too far gone, not many players recover a crowd once the judgement as been goven.

Hindsight is great and all that. We knew he was a risk, but at £8m it allowed us to spend elsewhere.

Southampton spent £25million on an England international and even that hasn't worked.

What we needed was a Kelvin Davis, nuts and bolts, reliable keeper who would have been just fine - nothing special, just fine. Someone like Wes Foderingham. Nowt special, just fine.

Just looked at Palmers career, he’s put in some hard yards at lower leagues with loans… so yeah, I make you right RE slicker now needing to do the same.

I’d have liked us to have gone for Cooper. Based on nothing but him plying well against us a couple of times in L1!

I think the issue with Cooper was he was a big risk at the time as he'd suffered 2 big injuries towards the end of his time with Plymouth. Spending most of the season on the treatment table.

But I agree, I'd would've liked us to go for him too as he was fantastic in our promotion from League One season.

Muric needs to be done. And our contract with goalkeeper.com needs to be terminated. Their “head of data science” never worked in pro football. But did work at Tesco. Next fans forum some serious questions need to be asked.

Well this lad is pretty damn close to that given his stats etc, lacks with his feet, but you find me a keeper who ticks every single box, yep we just want someone solid with good decision making right now..
