Assuming no surprises - transfer window out of 10? 20:56 - Feb 3 with 6274 viewsNeedhamChris

It's a 4 from me I think.

4.or 5. It showed early promise but didn't particularly address the real issues. However, I went into it not really expecting much and wasn't expecting anything at all today so kind of pleasantly surprised by the keeper addition, albeit not knowing a great deal about him.

I try to be measured and positive but I think it’s been an odd one. 4 seems a bit high.

Two loans - Encisco is promising but don't think Godfrey plays much with Axel fit....
Overpaid for Billy Jean - not good enough for Villa and a signing for the future in Championship
A reactionary last day signing of GK.

Most people believe we needed a forward and midfielder and neither have been addressed.

I'd rate our transfer window 3.5/10

3 - for Enciso. Godfrey's arrival seems slightly inexplicable at this stage. If Woolfenden went out on loan I could understand it a bit more. And Philogene looked out of his depth on Saturday. Very concerning considering amount paid for him.

Probably 5. Some useful additions, but no striker.

4 seems remarkably harsh. If you compare it to the business Wolves and Leicester have done, it's an 8 or 9. And when you consider that the striker we need seemingly doesn't exist, we've got the next best thing in Enciso. Godfrey has strong pedigree and when it became plain we needed a new GK, they've moved very quickly and got it done.

Encisco looks like class. Philogene is one we have wanted for a year. Godfrey good experience of PL.
new keeper and a Chelsea youngster. Better than a 4 I would think.

Encisos finishing was appalling. Hopefully just an off day.

A 4! Interested to know what would have made it a 10? A £30M striker and £20M CM?

We improved the RB position, got a 10 with real Prem pedigree, got a highly rated player we desperately wanted during the summer and then got a perfectly adequate keeper as competition.

Club wanted a midfielder and striker, the deal wasn't there to be done.

5 from me.

Still no striker and problems in central midfield unaddressed. To be fair we’ve probably done as well as a team in our position can expect to do in this window but it’s been pretty underwhelming really.

I think with Julio we have a back up striker if we need it. So it's a good signing which covers two positions imo

Philogene is one for the future. One we clearly wanted and if the option was to get him this window or lose him to another side then I'm glad we've got it done as he has a very bright future.

Godfrey. Not quite sure what to make of this signing. But after watching johnson and seeing how we miss axel when he's not playing then another option was needed.

Palmer.. good keeper. Not a baller so it's an interesting signing on that front. But he is a shot stopper and a confident keeper in great form.

New left back..
Good to see another youngster come in. I think that's 5 now this season from prem academies into ours. It's important we build that squad up..

I think I'm gonna go with a 7 out of 10.

Next season obv depends on league and who we don't have to sell .but if we do go down. You could say we only have the midfield to look at it with all other positions well covered between this season signings and our promotion winning players.

a niche perspective

Enciso is phwoar. Godfrey is now our most experienced player in the league(!). New GK was needed sadly and should serve us well as #1 or #2 in years to come. No CF is regrettable but wouldn't have improved the team for Villa (touch wood). No CM is a big miss and would have improved the team for all remaining games surely.

5/10

Four is only just below average. People tend to over-rate in this "out of ten" thing.

2.

Does it help us stay up?

I'd say no. I think all the confusion / finding the best 11 again outweighs any quality added.

Disappointing, as I’m sure the club are.

It was far better than average though? We addressed 3 key needs and then got a luxury player in Philogene.

Have a look at the other deals across the PL and ask yourself if there was really much more we could have done.

Ferguson was the only first team striker bought in across the entire PL. That tells you what a challenge it was.

For me it’s been hugely disappointing.

We needed a striker, we didn’t sign one.

We needed a CM, we didn’t sign one.

We needed a GK, fair play we did sign one.

2 forwards added, one on loan who looks good, and £20m on another, the position is bloated, did we need to invest here?

A CB/RB on loan, an odd one.

Is this window going to give us the boost needed to stay up? Very much doubt so.

2/10 - I hope I’m proved wrong.

Probably a 6.
Palmer is essentially a signing forced by injury (assume if Walton hadnt got injured, we woudnt have signed one)
Godfrey a bit curious given that Tuanzebe is fit and playing, but assume its relatively cheap.
Enciso looks to be an ideal loan signing who gives us an extra option in the forward roles that we needed.
Philogene is a great signing, a long term target, a huge fee and one that suggests the club keeping to a clear long term policy.

So two really good additions, one forced but needed, one a bit unusual. But not signing a forward probably drops it from an 8 or a 9 as it feels like it leaves us so exposed to the inevitable Hirst injury or Delap suspension, forcing us to have to adapt someone who isnt a great fit. It has probably already cost us this season, but could be critical.

Time to judge will be end of season. Right now, a 6.5. Glad to see we’ve acted in the GK dept. if we the fans don’t rate or trust Muric imagine how the players feel.

Solid Midfielder with the goalie for me.
If we had Encisco permanently would have been OK with no Billy Gene who is too lightweight would have preferred that in the summer if it was to be, think we have overpaid massively and I can see crowd turning against him in this division turning point for me Saturday was the sub of Broadhead and Cajuste. Godfrey bought in the hope he doesn't need to play ? So a weird and probably ineffective window for me. It is also yet ro be established if the goalie is a starter or a back up to Muric
