Not going well for him at Derby is it. Rarely gets a start now. Was so hoping he would do well there.

Derby look, by far, the worst of the sides that came up and the table has slowly but surely demonstrated that.

0-4 as I type.

Maybe he’ll find his level again next season.

In fairness seems to have started more games than Harness. Even if Derby were to be relegated they are a big club so think they could both do well there in League One.

Seems Derby are in freefall though, Eustace will be a good appointment if they stick with him next season. Incredible job he did at Blackburn- thought they’d be in the relegation mix this season.

Harness starting the season as a premier league player and ending in League 1 will be quite the feat

He’s only on loan, so while Derby may drop he won’t necessarily.

Not seen much of KD and MH, but they’ve looked alright when I’ve seen them, especially Harness. They’re playing in a struggling side, which doesn’t help.

DC seem to be fading and Pompey are no great shakes. Looks like the L1/Championship gap is still there, albeit not the PL chasm!

Why do posters seem so desperate to sl@g off the players that got us here.

I think it’s weirder when they play well at this level (Burgess, Wolfenden and Chaplin for example) and people fail to recognise that they have been better than players we’ve brought in at times just because they played in League One.

Jamie Vardy played in the National League, is nearly 40 (I think) and is still scoring in the top flight! I don’t think Leicester supporters cared about that when he was doing well for them in this same division!

In fairness he wasn’t a regular starter for us last season either, so I wouldn’t say it’s not going well. I think he’s a very effective player from the bench in the championship, that’s his level.

This might be a tangent but there's something about the common defense of players of 'they're playing in a struggling side' that bugs me. Arguably the team is struggling, in part, because these players aren't good enough. Otherwise you could defend all players in that squad by saying 'but they're part of a struggling side'.

Just me?

I get that and don’t disagree with you, but there is an element that says if you are for example a forward and you get no service from an absent midfield, what are you supposed to do?

For example the other week the only way Jack Clarke was going to see the ball was to pick it up in his own penalty area and start running. I guess that’s what makes Delaps efforts all the more remarkable feeding off nothing.

Back to Derby, I saw a bit of a game earlier in the season and they were going at the opposition and Jackson looked lively. He’s always been marginal in front of goal, but for a free transfer he was adding something. Harness is a neat, tidy footballer who can find space. The bits I’ve seen of him he’s looked alright and certainly more skilled than those around him. So while I take your point, I do think what I said has merit too. Bit ‘chicken and egg’ I guess.

As has been pointed out they were fringe players here last season and moved on at the right time having made valuable contributions. I wish them well (good characters) but hope we are upping the quality of the players we are bringing in.

Jackson for me is

A league 1 striker or
A champ winger

He's not technically good enough to be a striker in the champ and not clinical enough. However he does have pace and can on occasions put in some excellent balls into the box.

In league 1 he's a handy striker in a two.

KM used him simply and asked him to use what talents he had. He didn't ask him to be more than he was.

Unfortunately imo derby aren't doing that.

a niche perspective
