Expect a million 'spin offs' now like Star Wars and Marvel. I love JB and it has got painfully slow the last decade or so, but this is not going to go well.

Time to go back to the books. I recently read one of the Bond continuation novels, Devil May Care by Sebastian Faulks, and it really was cracking.

Hasn’t been a good Bond movie for about 30 years. Not sure there’s much left to be harmed. Unless you think cartoonish generic action films are a thing worth saving.

The books are far better than the films, imho.

My favourite was the George Lazenby one, OHMSS? Quite like Daniel Craig's character in the few that I've seen with him in, as closer to the Bond of the books, but can't stand the ridiculous 'action' scenes. As you say, cartoonish and idiotic.

....if they had a "little person" playing a baddie these days!

None of the old JB films would ever get made now, in fact I'm surprised they still show them.

I’d love to see a film based on that book.

Agreed. I thought he brought the grittiness that Bond needs - his portrayal was very close to Fleming's Bond, and one of my favourites alongside Dalton and Lazenby.

Agreed.

Timothy Dalton was the best, his Bond portrayal was ahead of its time.

....physical appropriation?

I mean surely they could have got a "little person" to play that role?!

Ronnie Corbett? actually he might be dead.

Danny De Vito?

Conor Chaplin?

I thought Casino Royale was brilliant and Skyfall, whilst overrated, was still very good but QoS and Spectre were very poor. NTTD was fairly middling.

Agree with the Dalton post, he was superb, shame he never got a fair crack at it with the trouble the studio was in financially.

Fair point, I'd say Danny Devito and Tom Cruise etc are rightly p1ssed. Conors way to handsome and charming for the job

Difficult to say, some people fear change, others embrace it.

It might be a fantastic move for the Bond franchise, especially as it needs to adjust to the modern era of how content is consumed

The Daniel Craig films were okay, but a bit more Bourne than Bond anyway, the last one with Brosnan was absolutely woeful with race-swapping Koreans and super lasers, so I am not sure Amazon can really do much worse. As fun as the Roger Moore ones were, they haven't aged well, same with Connery. Old people will always prefer the originals, objectivity cannot compete with nostalgia.

Surprisingly the two Dalton ones stand up as decent 80s action movies, and they were hated and considered franchise killers at the time. Goldeneye holds up pretty well as well.

Having read a couple of Anthony Horowitz' new Bond novels, I think new movies will go back to old school Bond if they are to be based on his books. I think the Craig movies got a bit silly in some respects. Though Craig played the Bond role well. Will be interesting to see where MGM Amazon go with it.
